GAME OF THRONES (AGAIN)
« on: April 19, 2017, 07:23:50 AM »
I do realize that this has been discussed earlier on this board but as a result of some of your GETBIG recommendations (Thanks!) I just  finished watching all six seasons (the final 7th season willl be shown on TV this summer, I believe) and was completely taken in by how great it was ..... with only a few exceptions.

One such 'exception' was the episodes regarding THE HOUSE OF BLACK AND WHITE which, to me, was not as well 'written' as the other episodes within this exceptional TV series.

And having worked on a few films within my own lifetime, I was amazed by the BATTLE OF THE BASTARDS episode and the 'capture on film' of the battle sequences which produced within myself a feeling of claustrophobia which I've never experienced before.

I can honestly say that throughout my lifetime, I've watched thousands of celluloid and taped productions and have participated in a fair number of the best of the best but ....... the Game of Thrones was way beyond my expectations of what is considered to be the finest 'event' within the world of visual entertainment.

I have been encouraged to read each of George Martin's books but they are all rather lengthy so I'll just wait to see what happens this summer during season 7.

Big question is .... Will Jon Snow end of marrying the Dragon Queen and rule their 'world' together?

I think NOT because this author likes to end things in ways which are unexpected and just  might decide to end the story  by killing each of the principal 'ingredients'.

(If you know the outcome and decide to print it here,  please advise of a "story ALERT' or whatever it's call nowadays.)

Thanks again for the initial recommendation to watch this great TV series and let me know if there is any other series that may be as great as THE GAME OF THRONES).

John Snow and Khaleesi are related.

Jon Snow is the son of Lyanna Stark and (presumably) Rhaegar Targaryen, making him Ned Stark's nephew, not his son. This is a tragedy on many different levels — the first and most obvious being that Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen are related, so if they end up married, it'll be icky. Rhaegar Targaryen is Daenerys's oldest brother, making Jon Snow her nephew and therefore heir presumptive to the Targaryen throne.

DIABLO/RESIDUE, THANKS! THE VARIOUS Game of Throne families and their inter-relationships was a part of the series that went completely over my head .... meaning that I did not comprehend it at all.

SO ....  thanks for the clarification.

Season 7 is not the last.  They broke up the last season into two shorter seasons.  There will be 8 total.  At this point they've completely diverted from the book because fat RR Martin refuses to write the next installment.

Diablo, Thanks .... I was not aware of that (season eight).

But hasn't the conclusion of Game of Thrones already been written by Mr. Martin?

And why is he refusing to write the final episode for TV?

CRAWLER ,Thanks for the video.

I don't know how to attach a video from YouTube but I notice that there is 'footage' from THE BATTLE OF THE BASTARDS.

Can you attach it here?

Nope, RR Martin claims he has about 2 more books to finish it.  HBO leaned on him hard to write the next book, instead he spent a couple years and wrote a completely different story about female heroes.  In the books they actually tell you at the start of book 4 I think that John Snow and the dwarf will not be in it and the story diverts, but of course HBO created new storylines for them to keep them in the series.

DIABLO, That sounds like the possibility of a lawsuit .... The taking of one's intellectual property and diverting it for profitable gain.

Any word on that possibility?

Not to change the subject but I gotta give these GOT actors a bit of credit ... with a number of them in particular. (That follows soon.)

But I want to mention that I have a few Hollywood actors within the family and each of them are always preparing for an upcoming motion picture role and I'm usually the individual whom they practice with.

So I get a chance to watch them become someone else .... which always amazes me simply because I am always only capable of being no one other than myself no matter how hard I try to be otherwise.

But one family member becomes the individual whom he is assigned to portray by practicing as that character at home for days/weeks in advance  ... until his youngest kids start crying and ask for their daddy back.

I find it impossible to fully appreciate an actor's on screen performance unless I have known that individual personally  and see him/her become an entirely different persona when that camera rolls.

And .... I don't think that any casting agent could have done a better job than those agents who did their job so perfectly casting the  Game of Thrones' principal performers.

I'll name of few of my favorite if there is any interest.

Feminist nonsense.

Started off awesome but the last two seasons have been total shit. All the male leaders overthrown or killed and replaced by women. Seriously all the major powerful heads are Women, In an Age when brawn is king? WTFF!

I'll still catch the final seasons, But this is no longer the show of the year.  Better call Saul and Fargo are way better.

450! Thanks. I'll give FARGO or SAUL a try this week. Which one do you recommend I start with?

My recommendation for GetBiggers who have an interest in modern history is ...... DOWNTON ABBY.

And a movie I sorta liked is THE GUEST.

But one of the finest historical movies is definitely NICHOLAS AND ALEXANDRIA ..... Actually one of the finest movies I have ever seen!

no lawsuit.  Martin is an exec producer on it and also wrote a couple episodes but I did hear last season they didn't seek his input.  From the start of season 1 they've been pressing him to write the last two books but he hasn't.  The titles planned  are The Winds of Winter (forthcoming) A Dream of Spring (forthcoming).  The last book a dance with Dragons takes you through the Khaleesi story with the big war happening in the 6th book that has yet to happen.  Pretty sure he signed over some creative rights to the story.

john snow just got crowned king of the north and euron greyjoy just got crowned king of the iron islands. there's literally only 1 new female leader, Cersei

The time  arya stark spends in Braavos was the thing that I didn't like in the 6 seasons so far. Also I was disappointed that the Children of the Forest were so feeble

what is funny is martin wrote the first three books in a span of 5 or 6 years, and has only put out two in 17, i bet basically he figured he will make way more money from h.b.o and dvd sales. than he would from writing the last two books. he isnt as talented say as stephen king is for churning out books

RESIDUE and all, Once again, thanks for all this 'background info'. I think it's as interesting as the story itself.

FLEXACON, I agree with you entirely regarding the time  Arya Stark spent in Braavos (Then House of Black and White) and I was also disappointed about the Children of the Forest.

In fact I was going to mention that next but you beat me to it.

OLDSCHOOL, Thanks for the  Gamorra suggestion but I just returned from the library without that one because it was not on the shelf ... so I checked ou t he following videos instead because none of the suggested ones were available.....

Don't ask me why I picked out the following. It was just the cover that made then appear to be interesting or because of the following ....

Green Room .... Someone I know is supposed to be in it.
Compulsion  (The 1959 one) ..... An old movie that is supposed to be a classic with Orson We.
FADE TO BLACK ... A MOVIE LOVER'S MOVIE ... It says o on the cover.
The Cabinet of Dr Caligari .... Old one but I forgot what this one is all about.

Good enough while I wait for the  ones suggested by you GetBiggers to  appear on the library shelve.
Citadel ........They see my fear .... so it says.
