Watched the fight again today - I think Klitschko should have won. He should have steamrolled AJ after the knockdown. AJ had nothing left for two rounds.

He played it safe and it cost him the fight. It was a good fight though. Both put up a good fight.

Wlad doesn't tend to take risks. His stamina isn't great so his style is built on reserving energy. He also doesn't trust his chin so wouldn't do anything that could leave himself open to a counter. It usually wouldn't matter but in this fight, it proved costly. I do think a younger Wlad with quicker reactions and movement would have won this match, although AJ is probably around 3-5 years off his peak too.
A fight that would have been fun to see would have been AJ against a younger Vitali. The elder Klitschko was more robust then his brother and could brawl when he needed to. I think that could have been a war for the 5-7 rounds in lasts.

I actually graded the 5th round as a 9/10 for Joshua. Klitschko came back too strong after the knockdown, he actually dominated a lot of it.

Just saw the round again and would agree. Wlad recovered well from the knockdown and had AJ in trouble almost immediately afterwards.

i still think it was a 10-8 round. the thing is klitscho only gets into the fight because of aj's blatant inexperience. eddie hearn says aj actually ran to his corner screaming when klitscho was down. he thought it was all over and completely lost the plot wildly punching himself out. his near downfall was completely self induced. if he keeps his cool in that spot klitscho never poses a threat in the fight. would have probably been over in the 6th or 7th.

Wlad could easily have been the winner had he gone for it after he knocks him down.

I struggle to see how AJ would beat Fury though.

How is it so much of a struggle... AJ walks through his weak jabs and punishes him...even if he runs and holds for the whole fight AJ lands on him at some point.

He beat wlad cos he wouldn't pull the trigger as he was far too cautious, AJ definitely doesn't have that problem
