I'm experimenting with a new training routine.
« on: April 28, 2017, 07:55:19 AM »
After many years of natural bodybuilding I've made some good gains.  I've made some efforts in the last 2 years to balance out my physique and have improved my deltoids and triceps which were weak points.

Recently, I've hit a plateau so I've decided to go a much different direction. For the foreseeable future I'm going to do nothing but push-ups and chin-ups.  Multiple sets, every single day.  Probably resting on Sunday.

I'm interested to see what impact this will have on my physique and also my strength levels.  Anyone else here ever go to all body weight exercises for a period of time?

Throw in dips and you will be all set.pushups are good but not enough resistance to really strain the tris, chest and delts.Unless hurts you to dips I would just do dips and pull ups.

You'll hold on to everything.....mix in decline / incline / width  and pull up grips....do negatives, plyo versions etc......but do bodyweight squats, lunges, sprints and jumps too for lower body.

You'll also get sick of it after two weeks.   ;D

You mean you have to spend some time in jail? :D Saw a guy recently on YT who was training biceps for 30 consecutive days, worked for him by gaining 0.5" on his arms.

I thank you all for your replies.  Getbig never fails to provide some laughs.  Some good suggestions too.

No, I'm not going to prison.  No, I don't plan on juicing.  Just a regular guy trying to remain strong as he starts to get older and maintain a pussy slaying physique.  I'm not a kid anymore.

I will go back to weights eventually.  This is just an attempt to mix things up for a while and see what happens.

SoulCrusher abandoned traditional weight training years ago - focusing on what you mentioned, plus light weights being used for time instead of reps, etc.......he's probably more jacked than ever.

Thanks.  I was thinking about just running to keep my legs strong but I should probably incorporate body weight squats too.

In my younger days I focused on getting huge like Arnold.  Now I'm kind of shifting to aesthetics, as well as strength and fitness.

I don't want to be that 40 year old guy who hits the wall and looks like shit and can't run or fight (or whatever other manly shit that you occasionally have to do on planet Earth).

I'm trying to plan ahead if you know what I mean.

I've been doing exactly what you've outlined for the last 4 years, but I include the big three lifts in some capacity.

The rest is conditioning, speed and endurance.

Did an event of 27.3 miles two weeks ago with a 47 pound pack.

I only do 4 exercises these days - deadlifts (with either regular bar or trap bar), military presses, dips and chin ups. Works almost all muscles in the body and if you throw in some cardio, you should stay strong, lean and athletic.

I forgot about that. How did it go? Any massive blisters or horror stories?

Your overall strength in weights will decline. Overall impact on your physique visually is determined by how much fat and water you are holding.

Was not sore next day, but feet just hurt after mile 18.  That was the only mental struggle - realizing after that we still had 8.2M left.

One nickel sized blister popped, but skin didn't break so it didn't affect me.

But I never had that, so the next day I cut all the skin away, and it made my foot feel like it was hit with hammer for two days.

All in all a good event - a couple days later, went back to running, and got the harsh reality that ruck training and running are VERY different.

Definitely a viable option to go with but unless you possess the genetics of the dindu then your gains will plateau and plateau early.
Dindus and some of the latinos with dindu bloodlines are the only ones I saw in prison who could eat peanut butter and rocks 5x a day, do nothing but chins, dips and push ups and grow like weeds on the best gear. The ones that hit the iron piles were insanely thick...from the waist up. Zeeero legs with a few exceptions.

Give it a solid 30 days...it can't hurt. What have you got to lose?

Awesome effort. Yes, big difference - particularly over long distance when that weight really becomes noticeable. You should jump straight back into a few more events now, especially with the mental confidence boost that must have given.

I don't do the whole marathon fuck session thing anymore.  I'm too lazy.

I don't make a big production of it.  I just jam my veiny hog into the bitch, hump a couple of times and then drop my goo.

I only do arms now. 3 times a week or more. I want my arms bigger than my legs. Fuck balance proportion or aesthetics. I just want big guns hanging out of the t-shirt.
