My ex gf of 7yrs from 16-23 her dad hung himself two days ago. He was the victim of a crazy fuck wife who hit him, verbally abused him and drove him crazy. He gave her everything, massive house, brand new huge camper van to travel in as she won't fly, home gym, best of everything. The oil & gas economy here in Calgary has gone into the shitter.  Suicides are up considerably.   People in dire financial situations are taking their lives a variety of ways... intentionally OD'ing on Opioids, hanging themselves, even driving head-on into semi trucks on the highway.  It's bad here, very bad for people who once made an excellent living, and now have lost it all.  People in their 40's with a wife and children who've lost their homes, having to move back home with their elderly parents because they can't find employment.  Loss of dignity, money, self respect....

The problem with checking out is that you can't see or believe things will ever get better in the future. Bad times don't last but you can't see that went you are looking out from the valley. Five months from now or 5 years from now you will look back and think from a clearer standpoint. I really feel for people who commit suicide. I have been in severe despair more than once in my younger years. Now close to 60 I see everything turned out for the better. I couldn't see that then. Is everything puppies and champagne? No, but it's no where as black as it seemed in my teens and early 20's.
