Story of Chuck Wepner the boxer that inspired Stallone to write Rocky

No doubt he is the real Rocky. Sly loosely based the movie on him. He was a pro fighter that always had a job then trained in the gym. He got his ass beat by Ali for 15 rounds but he refused to quit. He even knocked Ali down but it's controversial. Ali thought he was getting a tune up fight but no one told Chuck Wepner that. Wepner fought some of the best fighters at their peak like Foreman and Sonny Liston. He always went to work all day then trained. The only fight he didn't have a job for was Ali. Sly hung with Chuck a lot when his movie shot through the roof. Chuck got pissed that he didn't get a penny out of the deal and Sly started denying the movie had anything to do with him. Chuck took him to court and got a settlement but part of the agreement was that he could no longer talk about Rocky or Sly. After Ali he fought some more but his body was just too destroyed. He was in one to many wars. Rumor has it he fell in with the Jersey mob and drugs. He felt he let his many fans down and change the direction of his life. Really an incredible story. I hope the movie does him justice.

He did a lot of whacky stuff to make money after Ali. He even fought a bear. I saw Chuck in a store a couple of years ago. Still a huge for an old man.

There is that but you know it'll be pretty different as rocky was loosely based on it. Bring it on I say, a real movie and not a cgi superhero shitfest.

Absolutely. I read about the Bayonne Bleeder maybe 20 years ago. And no way Stallone based his prosthetics on Chuck's injuries....

Who was that one guy who used to fight everyone and get knocked out? His claim to fame was that he got KO's in every town...

I saw that at the Spectrum in Philly on close circuit t.v. Antonio Anoki laid on his back the whole fight , and kicked Ali in the legs.

Chuck Wepner, who fought great heavyweights like Muhammad Ali and George Foreman, said no one ever hit him harder than Liston. Wepner once said getting hit by him was like getting hit with a baseball bat. He wasn’t exaggerating, as he walked out of that fight with a broken nose, a broken cheek bone and 72 stitches.

Jerry Quarry was a great fighter. Just he was around top shelf hall of fame guys like Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Norton, Shavers, Lyle and others.
