It’s pretty damn evident that there are a lot of very intelligent GetBiggers on this Board  .... and only  a fistful of the extremely opposite.

So in an effort to resolve some of the world’s biggest problems … it might be a good idea to toss out some questions to see how many GetBiggers can solve the ‘impossible’ and possibly contribute to the prevention of world destruction.

Science has proven that  some of the seemingly stupidest answers have eventually proven to be the wisest … so don’t hesitate to contribute even if you think you’re too stupid to do so.

After all ….GetBuiggers are only as stupid as they want to be!

FIRST QUESTION : The speed of light is 186,282 miles per second in a vacuum.

WHY? How was that speed limit established? Why isn't it faster or slower?

And when it starts ... Does it start slowly and gradually build up speed?

Cut and paste for ya.  Just knowing this doesn't make you smart.  Like asking a physicist to fix an engine, just because he can't doesn't make him dumb and does that mean a mechanic who can isn't smart?

One of the methods Einstein used to help formulate his theory of special relativity was to visualize what the universe would look like from the perspective of a photon. Einstein saw that life as a photon would be quite bizarre. For instance, if you were a photon, time would have no meaning to you. Everything would appear to happen instantaneously.

Imagine for a moment that you are a happy little photon created by a star in another galaxy some 4 billion light years away. From my perspective here on Earth, it took you exactly 4 billion years to travel from that star till you reached my retina. From your perspective, one instant you were created and then the next, you are are bouncing off or being absorbed by my eyeball. You experienced no passage of time. Your birth and death happened instantaneously.

This is because time slows for you as your get closer to light speed, and at it, it completely stops. This is also another reason why nothing can go faster than light. It would be like slowing down a car to a stop, and then trying to go slower than completely stopped.

One should think of the speed of light as ‘infinite speed’. A common misconception is thinking the speed of light is just like any other finite speed. The speed of light is only finite from the perspective of the outside observer; from the perspective of a photon, it’s infinite. If you move at exactly the speed of light you could go anywhere, no matter how far, in exactly zero seconds

WHY? How was that speed limit established? Why isn't it faster or slower? One guy held a radar gun and another guy turned on the flashlight. Speed of light established.

And when it starts ... Does it start slowly and gradually build up speed? That really depends on if the person holding the flashlight push the switch fast or slow. Also depends on how fresh the batteries are.

Too lazy to google and copy/paste Webster's definition of "start"

The speed of light is not infinite, it is a constant.

The only true infinite known to man is Getbig's stupidity.

SLIK, You are definitely correct about that cup of coffee if I were to make an attempt to provide an answer to any of these questions, but the 'experts' who have a fairly decent understanding of this 'stuff' are rare individuals and get huge salaries just because they can think of stuff like this and then offer proof based on advance mathematics.

As DIABLO pasted somewhere up above, it was Einstein who would think of stuff like this (more complicated thoughts though) before shocking the scientific community with his discoveries by scribbling funny figures on a blackboard.

So it could be a remote possibility that some GetBigger could contribute to Quantum Mechanics even if his response is an intent to be somewhat humorous.

That funny response may be the answer (spark?) that ignites someone to see the an existing problem-without-a-solution differently and then proceed to find the correct 'solution'.

Stranger things happen within the world of Quantum Mechanics every day.

Next 2 questions  :

1. If  the speed of light was to increase to twice of what it  is today, what changes would we notice on a daily basis?.

2. What would happened if it somehow changed to 100 mile/second?
