The thing is that it is not just Tor that you'd need. I also used Private Tunnel, and you'll have to have bitcoins to make any purchase. So for the casual buyer the hassle is too much.

Depends on the legality of what you are looking for as well, obviously. At most I'd get a small fine for buying roids here, so worth the risk.

If you're using Tor for really illegal searches, then I would take even more extreme security measures. Buying a second-hand laptop from a flea market, only using it for those searches, only from free wifi places far from home, etc. I wouldn't be diligent enough to have literally nothing personal on that laptop.

The Silk Road was also running on a TOR network, yet they got busted once the CIA was able to run spies in the network. I've heard good stories about VPN networks.

I've used it before. Worked okay to get around a stupid IP ban on BB.com.

It is nothing but an FBI honey hole now; you missed out on all the fun by 5-7 years.

I agree in principle with online anonymity and don't like my data being mined.  In practice, TOR is probably a bunch of pedos and people trying to score drugs.

Yes I agree with this.. Especially the drug part with all the marketplaces. There have been an astounding number of arrests lately linked to finding lawbreakers using TOR. The FBI has found some way to identify the exit nodes yet will absolutely not reveal what their methods are. In a court a few weeks ago a pedophile who had been busted via this method got off scott free because the defense demanded the prosecution identify their methods how they captured the guy. They were so unwilling to let this method go they let the guy walk.

check deepdotweb.com  its on clearnet and is a fantastic site for news writeups on the goings on on TOr

I don't like that my cable company can collect and sell my web history now. TOR might be overkill, but I think the market for trustable VPNs just shot up to the sky.

Been many a Tor user charged with child pornography, mistakenly thinking they were anonymous to authorities.
