What's the crime? The leak was neither privileged or classified information. Additionally, Comey is a private citizen which frees him from the constraints of being a public employee.

That's incorrect.  He wrote the memos on FBI letterhead in his government office using his government computer.  I think he probably broke the law, or at a minimum was extremely careless with government info.  And he leaked the contents of private conversations with his boss solely to protect his reputation.  Horrible move on his part that shattered his credibility.

Comey's memo brought about the independent investigation...he's no fool.

He is absolutely a fool for leaking his memos in his own self interest.  He didn't accomplish anything, except put himself in jeopardy.  Incredibly dumb move.

This independent investigation isn't going to do anything to prove your loony conspiracy theory that Trump conspired with the Russians to get elected president so he could become a Russian puppet.

Bingo

Without the existence of  the memo being leaked (along with some of its content) we would not have the special council today

There was nothing secret or confidential in the memo and he didn't break any laws by asking a friend to leak the contents of it to the press

BTW - I predict that Trump will never actually testify under oath even though it's reported today that he is willing to do so.

I do think that Dan Coats and Adm. Michael S. Rogers will be compelled  to testify about whether Trump pressured them in any way regarding ongoing investigations.

Quote from  earlier this week

Quote
“I’m not satisfied with ‘I do not believe it is appropriate’ or ‘I do not feel I should answer,’” Mr. King said. “I want to understand a legal basis. You swore that oath to tell us the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. And today, you are refusing to do so. What is the legal basis for your refusal to testify to this committee?”

Mr. Coats replied, “I’m not sure I have a legal basis.”

3.  What the heck ever.  Don't try and act like you haven't been peddling that asinine Russia-Trump conspiracy theory.  I know it sounds crazy when you actually spell out this whacky conspiracy theory, which doesn't have a shred of evidence supporting it, but you and all of the folks pushing this crap own it.

OPINION: The damaging case against James Comey

The testimony of James Comey proved long on atmospherics and sort on ethics. While many were riveted by Comey’s discussion of his discomfort in meetings with President Trump, most seemed to miss the fact that Comey was describing his own conduct in strikingly unethical terms. The greatest irony is that Trump succeeded in baiting Comey to a degree that even Trump could not have imagined. After calling Comey a “showboat” and poor director, Comey proceeded to commit an unethical and unprofessional act in leaking damaging memos against Trump.

Comey described a series of ethical challenges during his term as FBI director. Yet, he almost uniformly avoided taking a firm stand in support of the professional standards of the FBI. During the Obama administration, U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch gave Comey a direct order to mislead the public by calling the ongoing investigation a mere “matter.” Rather than standing firm on the integrity of his department and refusing to adopt such a meaningless and misleading term, Comey yielded to Lynch while now claiming discomfort over carrying out the order.

ADVERTISEMENT When Trump allegedly asked for Comey to drop the investigation of Michael Flynn or pledge loyalty, Comey did not tell the president that he was engaging in wildly inappropriate conduct. He instead wrote a memo to file and told close aides. He now says that he wishes he had the courage or foresight to have taken a stand with the president.

However, the clearest violation came in the days following his termination. Comey admits that he gave the

Even if there is no evidence, there is a heck of a lot of smoke. If there is evidence, it is unlikely the public will be informed about at this point.

I imagine not much will come of this. Sessions is likely to refuse to answer questions which would put him in jeopardy.

The Whitewater investigation started out as an investigation about a land purchase in 1978 (for perspective - Clinton was elected POTUS in 1993)

That investigation ended with Clinton being impeached for lying about a blowjob

I'm not playing dumb. It's a common saying. Who knows what fire? It's all just speculation at this point. If there is a fire, the Special Counsel will probably find it and we may know source of the fire....or we may not.

Once again, I find you are talking in circles. It's as if you just arrived from some other planet so you don't know what's been going on....or it is actually you who is playing dumb.

Maybe you think I'm an "insider" and have information the public is not privy to. If I am, I wouldn't leak it anyway.

Comey suspects Loretta Lynch was working with Clintons
New York Post ^ | June 8, 2017 | Bob Fredericks
Posted on 6/8/2017, 9:57:25 AM by Meet the New Boss

Ousted FBI Director James Comey said Thursday that he suspected former Attorney General Loretta Lynch was in cahoots with the Hillary Clinton campaign last summer.

Lynch, he said, told him not to refer to the probe into Clinton’s private email server as an “investigation.”

She said just call it a matter. … That concerned me because that language tracked how the campaign was talking about the FBI’s work,” he said.

Former President Bill Clinton’s surprise meeting with Lynch at an Arizona airport also prompted him to go public with results of the FBI probe into the email server.

“That was the thing that capped it for me, that I had to do something separately to protect the credibility of the investigation, which meant both the FBI and the Justice Department,” Comey said

I'm not playing dumb. I just find it unfathomable that Trump *could* be facing criminal charges, but not a single person could tell me what exactly those charges should be (except for a few individuals screaming "treason").

Like I said in the other thread, the media is making this whole situation "guilty until proven innocent" for Trump.

As Harry Truman had on an oval office desk sign ; " The buck stops here."

Trump is POTUS and is the main one responsible for what goes on in the federal GOV.
He gets to make the big calls, but also has to take the heat.

Another old bit of wisdom here :

" If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen."

Prediction - This will end quite well for Comey and his reputation will be one of honesty and integrity when this is over.
Team Trump will end up being viewed as incompetent crooks . Of course, the loyal nuthuggers
will refuse to accept that and talk endlessly about goofy conspiracy theories that did him in. ::)

If I end up being right, how about using some lube and providing a reach-around next time you try to fuk me  ;D

He won't answer that or will say "obstruction" then ignore the fact that there is no way under the sun that that remotely constituted obstruction legally.

You do realize that the Russian stuff occurred under Obama's watch. Why didn't he or Comey do anything about it?
