I just spotted an African Readhead Agama
« on: June 10, 2017, 10:41:45 AM »

They are badass little fuckers. I immediately noticed it while pulling into my driveway. The bastard didn't budge an inch. I have all types of lizards where I live, and have noticed that they are very territorial. I will spot the same lizards, in the same places, everyday.

I believe this guy thinks he is taking over my territory. As I start getting out of my vehicle, he starts showing his display of dominance. The lizard literally started doing pushups in my driveway. I couldn't help but laugh. He showed me who was boss.

It's not about tracking down....It's more about calling out bullshit.

As far as Florida: I have lived here my entire life. Maybe I am spoiled, but most resident Floridians do not see what all of the fuss is about.

Mild winters, okay I get it, but that is what I would prefer year round. Give me 65-70 degrees, and I would be in heaven. The Florida summers are absolutely brutal once you add in the humidity.

Besides, I believe in hereditary traits, evolution etc..... Both of my parents were born in cold climates. My ancestors come from Europe.

I enjoy colder climates. If it's 50 degrees in Florida, I see people wearing sweaters and beanies. I wear shorts and a t-shirt.

How does an African lizard make it's way to Florida? Is mother nature that powerful?

Is it an Adam and Eve procreation all over again? Fascinating.

Not likely. This species has only been spotted in Florida for around 20 years. The likely answer is that some of the first were pets that were released into the wild. But how does that describe the procreation? They are obviously relatively rare (in Florida) so how in the hell are males mating with females? Maybe I just saw a one in a million case.

Lol! I do not follow your script. I will admit that the Brits seem to own this place at the moment.

It still begs the question, Parker. How does a native lizard to Africa, find itself in Florida? Not only that, but how did this African lizard multiply?

Did it begin by one person releasing a male and female? I have seen multiple lizards of these species, around here.

Is this an Adam and Eve example? There is no way a species native to Africa, would survive, unless a concerted effort was made for them to thrive in Florida.

http://www.wildflorida.com/wildlife/lizards/African_Rainbow_Lizard.php

The colorful African Rainbow lizard is native to Africa, but a few small populations have become established in Florida, namely in Homestead, Hollywood, Palm City, Punta Gorda in South Florida, and Sanford in central Florida. All of these populations have become established at sites near reptile dealerships, and they are thought to represent escapees or animals that have been intentionally released.

Cool story.

On a side note, I heard you were hoping to one day find an African Red Dickhead Lizard in your driveway so you can really give something some head for real  ;D

If that was found in his driveway, this thread wouldn't exist. He has already documented his encounter with dick-in-the-mouth, so that would have been a duplication of efforts.

One of my dumbest moves ever was moving iback up North from Port St. Lucie in the mid nineties.

My worst day in Florida was way better than my best day in the Northeast.  :(
