Putin publicly pointed to the Panama Papers disclosure and the Olympic doping scandal as US-directed efforts to defame Russia, suggesting he sought to use disclosures to discredit the image of the United States and cast it as hypocritical.

Putin most likely wanted to discredit Secretary Clinton because he has publicly blamed her since 2011 for inciting mass protests against his regime in late 2011 and early 2012 ,and because he holds a grudge for comments he almost certainly saw as disparaging him.

It's true that Trump is far from the type I'd like to see as CiC, and I do wish he'd done almost everything differently since he took the office.  IMO, every day he should have worked toward carefully explaining to Americans why things are fucked, and what we need to do to correct them.  That way he could move forward in relative safety, with us on his side.

He hasn't done that, of course, and that part about him I don't understand.  One possibility is that too many others have the goods on him, and he lives in a mine field.  If that's the case, then we lose either way.

But to pretend our media is anything but a nasty little cabal of conspirators in a very expensive meeting room, is dumb beyond belief.

Trumps crusade against the media is total BS.
