I was an active duty US marine when that incident occurred.
I went thru boot camp with a marine who was killed in the 1st attack at the base in Lebanon.
If you think Reagan and the US did nothing, you're 100% clueless.
I got my information directly from other marines who were there.
This is funny, but came directly from a fellow marine I served with.
He was a scout sniper and detached with a recon unit in the middle east.
His wife wanted him to have a more normal job, so he changed his MOS to
financial records ( 3421) when he reenlisted. That was my MOS.
In Lebanon, outside Beruit, he shot a boombox right off some protestors shoulder.
He said he saw him dancing and chanting on top of an American flag.
His rules of engagement prohibited him from killing anyone not shooting at them first.
He was pissed off, but, didn't want to violate the UCMJ law, so he did what he could.
So, he shot the boom box ,right off his shoulder from over 500 yds
He said that stopped their dancing immediately and they scattered.
Ok, I wasn't there and never saw it myself.
But this marine was a very credible source.
