Lion was still breathing at the end.  Surely the buffalo was torn to shreds the way the lion was hanging off his nose

It lost an eye. Nose and snout probably severely torn up. Not to mention legs and neck torn up. So, infection and probably severe issues with breathing, walking/running, and eating.

Highly probable that the buffalo died later on from injuries or predation due to being weaker from injuries.

I didn't see the eye loss. I always wonder how these animals seem to be able to take such fucked up injuries without showing obvious pain. Do they not feel pain like we do...?

You are kidding right? You do know you are also a mammal correct? What, do you think the  buffalo is going to verbally tell you it doesnt feel good? Please...never own or adopt an animal.

The Lion could not deal with the shear size/weight of the Buffalo. Lion was exhausted and beaten up. But it kept trying. No fear on either side.

I think you know what I'm really getting at, if we didn't know that buffalo was in a fight there's no obvious sign of pain,  screaming out, shaking, cowering etc.

A pretty damn stupid but utmost serious question ....

If there was some possible way to stop that fight without placing yourself in harm's way ..... would you do it?

animals instinctively know how to hide their pain, a dog can be suffering long before a person would think it's time to take it to the vet

they know when they show a weakness they are extremely vulnerable to predators

the lion in the video is small, not exactly mufasa

I would help the buffalo, but not the lion.  Lions and felines are horrible creatures.

Looks like an older, emaciated male lion. Probably kicked out of the pride by younger males. A younger, heavier male lion would have taken the buffalo.

There was a herd of buffalo in the background. Those things can form into aggressive packs if they see one of there own getting hurt.

I thought it was a younger juvenile lion. It is lacking a fully formed mane. And it is smaller, almost, if not the size of a female lion. I was thinking, "just walk away", it missed being gored when it was between its horns and just hanging on.

Just as I thought the lion was cast out of the pride. So it was starving and weak. Apparently 6 years old so not quite a juvenile anymore. But they can live to be 20-25 years old.

Male lions will lose hair on their mane when they are ill or sick. That's why those older male lions near death don't have such prominent manes. A huge, healthy adult male lion would have made short work of the buffalo but then again it would have had females hunting for it.

Footage of a male lion killing a cape buffalo by himself. Male lions CAN and DO hunt.
