If we are talking cash . . . about $800 to $1000 a year. However, I do ( do ) volunteer work at approx 10 hours per month.

it's for bodybuilders who has been deadlifting, squatting and bench pressed durin their active career. they now need all the help they can get.

Actually - how much of your money goes to charitable purposes would be a better question.  I like to give to rescue groups started by individuals who you obviously see are also using their own money and tons of their time.

These answers surprise me BUT...BUT...do you consciously give OR...OR is the money deducted from your cheque every week? I'm finding it rather surprising that people that are so insultive and judgmental actually give.

I receive something in the mail from St. Jude Children's Hospital. I put a check in the return envelope. I believe it's every month or something.

I give to the local animal rescue league, money, food, supplies, etc.
Gave a truck last week to Kars-4 Kids (2002 Ford F150, with only 90K on it, but starting to rust lately from sitting/non-use).

My wife and I make a regular, monthly donation to
a couple different charities:

Major parts the world don't have basic water to drink, wash, grow crops, etc
I'm not for just throwing money at 3rd world countries. But c'mon it's tough to function without water.

This group provides actual surgical operations to restore sight.
A lot of them have cateracts, which only requires a 15 min surgical procedure.
Without sight , it's tough to be a fully functional, working person.

We also adopt our dogs ( 2 now) from a shelter or pet rescue organization.

My nest door neighbor took part in the Christmas Angel Tree (pick an angel off a tree and buy the kid gifts requested from the Angel. ) this is for families in need. 

So my neighbor meets he family at a wal-mart parking lot to hand off the gifts and the family pulls up in an Escalade, has an I-Phone, and a nice watch on.

Yup, you've got to check them out.
For example, a lot of the clothing donation bins are a scam.
They use some generic name on the bin to get clothes .
 They just sell it at flea markets, yard sales, etc.

I pay plenty of taxes.. so nothing other than buying a gift and donating it to the Salvation Army.

Raise some $$ for the vets through some events, and do one off donations to others who are doing events, and some occasional donations to stuff I see on The Chive / facebook.

In all, probably don't give enough.

I donate blood, considering to donate plasma as well.

Refuse to give money out of principle, but sometimes give to the cancer foundation.

Guessing $600 a year. St. Jude, PVA, and various animal rescue type charities are examples of the type I give to. I also occasionally give to street beggar depending on how bad off they appear to be, but it's rare. I also donate a similar amount in clothing, books, etc.... to Goodwill.

nothing, charities are a profit for shareholders company, they pay CEOs huge salaries to make them profitable.
Lots of charities are set up as tax havens, no tax paid on charitable donations
Many charities lost money during the financial crash due to having millions of pounds stored offshore in tax free accounts.
just take a look at cancer research main headquarters.
