Sleep Apnea/ Cpap
« on: July 15, 2017, 03:07:34 PM »
Any other getbiggers suffer from sleep apnea? My wife says I snore like a freight train if she doesn't fall asleep right away it makes things hard for her. She said it sounds like i stop breathing for a couple seconds.

I had a sleep study done second part is next week. I will have to go overnight again and be adjusted for cpap. What kind of mask works the best? Does it irrate the face?

I'm not overweight I don't have a big neck i just have bad sinus and my whole family snores.

I have apnea and started using cpap last october.

Don't snore much now....very mild if any.

Lost a ton of weight.  Test levels increased.

Get quality sleep.  Not tired next day.  Blood pressure came way down.

Good therapy.  Mask doesn't irrirate my face and i have sensitive skin.

Takes time to adjust to cpap.  Don't give up and know everyone goes through it.  Mask sometimes comes off during the night.

Don't remember brand or style....it was their standard mask that covers nose and mouth.

Tough to use with seasonal allergies or if you're sick with cough.

If you are falling asleep during the day while doing things like watching TV or driving you definitely need to use CPAP
at night so you sleep better.  It will enable to you sleep deeper and you will probably lose weight and lower your blood pressure.

There are 3 types of masks.  (1) nasal only  (2) nose and mouth (3) and mouth only.

the first 2 are the most common types of masks.  Yes it can irritate your skin.  Some people don't like the nose and mouth mask because it's claustrophobic.  But try different types of masks.  Since your wife noticed you not breathing while sleeping, that is quite serious.  You are probably becoming hypoxic during your apneas and that's stressing your heart.  THe sleep test will determine the severity of your sleep apnea.

Diet can't correct some airway obstruction in people but a goos idea to eat better regardless.

I had the first part of the study done. Doctor told me I had pretty bad obstructive sleep apnea. I wake up with headaches I snore so loud. Sometimes the thing inbky throat swells up I take a sedative or drink too much. The cpap should make big difference.

You mean your uvula will swell when snoring?  Mine would get so swollen it would hang down and lay on my tongue or sometimes suck into my sinus.  It's called uvulitis.

Got it here too. Doctor said I have a thick neck and small throat because of big uvula and shit.  ( no homo). I used a low pressure but I sleep though the night now. Oh and I stop doing neck exercises. ;D

I use headgear with nosepillows...With masks I feel my breath on the tip of my nose and that really bothers me...Also with the pressure being administered through my nose, the air passages in my nose are enlarged which feels much better...My titration is 12/13 centimeters of water...I had my tonsils out, some Goddamn thing lasered in my nose to make the air passage bigger, and my uvula shaved down all in one go...This was to reduce the pressure necessary for the cpap to work.

I can feel my throat being held open by the pressure and, believe it or not, it feels relaxing...I knew it was working when I noticed that the sheets would be just as they were when I went to sleep..

My mate suffered bad, recently was tested and was stopping breathing in his sleep something like 60 times an hour! Now has to wear a mask to bed hooked up to a machine and it's dropped down to 2 or 3 an hour

Wow, that's an extreme case. Everything above 5 breathing stops is diagnosed as apnea. My score was 15

Do you need a machine now too or do you just get on with it?
My mate was always tired in the day and no energy.
Even dozed off at the wheel a couple of times he was so knackered from disturbed sleep.
