why the fitness industry is a scam
« on: July 16, 2017, 01:08:46 AM »
why is the fitness industry rotten to the core?

people believe that being in shape will help them relate to others, which is the case, but to a very limited extent.  however, "fitness experts" make a living by selling others the myth that being in shape has a huge effect on their relations with others.  there is only one person for whom this myth is "reality", and that is the fitness expert himself, who receives money and admiration by being a living example and teacher for others.

the student typically has no desire to become a teacher, though, and this is the heart of the scam: the path only works if the student becomes the teacher.  otherwise, even the most successful student fails to impress others, except a small amount.

thus the fitness industry resembles other scam-realms like monastic living, self-help guruism, etc.  note: i am not talking about people like coach, who prepare athletes for competition, but people who sell a "fitness lifestyle," such as ordinary personal trainers and youtube gurus.

i love the fitness industry.

a scam it is not.

there's great products being offered and being invented all the time.

its awesome that people can find a work in the industry and that people can be motivated.

and the money that comes in that enables bodybuilders etc to compete fulltime and not need other jobs its just great. and contests being arranged like mr olympia etc

even back in arnolds days when he didnt have any money he sold fitness stuff so he could start his career which lead to him being able to make movies etc instead of being poor and having to go back to austria and drive a truck.

in short I APPLAUD the fitness industry and all the great things it brought with it. without it we wouldnt have arnold we wouldnt have professional bodybuilding we wouldnt have getbig.

In order to sell their products, companies promote them. It's called a free market.  ::)

It's all about attention for 99.9% of these people.  It's getting worse with the women I see.  They all compete after working out for a month, and suddenly they have a 'coach', and are on a 'team'.  Since when does anyone need to pay someone to be their coach for bodybuilding, fitness, etc?  You're a complete moron if you can't find information on dieting, or working out without paying some idiot who is too lazy to get a real job.  These so called coaches also pay someone to coach them, then give the same diet program, and workout to their clientele.  Unreal.

SUpplements can't survive on their own merits - its all a sham. Show people something they can't have (drug physique) and tell them they can get there with X product. It's all about pilfering the wallets of the ignorant before they wise up (See Animal Pak ads with McGrath aiming at stupid kids, etc.) This extends to people training others, the whole fake natty thing, etc.

Remember 2 or 3 summers ago when some of the idiots from "Shredz" were posting here? They were bragging about money, muscle, women, success ect... And they claimed that they basically had a bunch of reinforcers known as the "Goon Squad".

That showed how truly pitiful some people in this industry truly are.

It's predominantly a scam industry but, as dropping plates said it is the free market and no one is under any compulsion to buy these products, and, if you're dumb enough to do so, it's your fault.

yes it is sad that something most of us enjoy is nothing but a scam. as a kid i believed all those ads in the magazines about getting muscles and that pros ate this used this machine took these vitamines etc. as an adult i know better. lol. yes its a free market and people can buy what they want but the ads should not be able to be such lies. they should have to tell the truth. there are so many gullable lazy humans out there always looking for the magic pill or machine or anything else that says get in shape in 1 minute a year while eating anything you want. lol. i wish it would all go back to the 60s and 70s ( yes i know they had scams then too but not nearly as many)

To be fair, much of the problem stems from the fact that the one supplement that does work, steroids, is illegal. This precludes having an honest discussion about supplementation. We are left with silly debates about things that have marginal, if any, benefits like nutrient timing and micromanaging macros.

If steroids were legal, do you think all these pros would be pushing stupid fart powders? Of course not. They would be pushing steroids.

The fitness industry is NOT A SCAM.  It really depends on how you conduct business.  Despite what some of you say, I made a lot of money selling supplements and fitness equipment.  That's why I ran Caliber Fitness Solutions for over 17 years.

Now in terms of fitness experts, its a touchy subject because quite frankly if that person motivates or gets that person to lose weight or build muscle then he's done his fucking job.  It doesn't matter if he has them picking cotton in a field to work their abs, sit in a sweat tent, etc.  Its up to the individual to decide whether the advice is good or bad.  Everyone is an adult so let them decide

in other words you have the fitness industry to thank.

so you ungrateful fucking morons should shut the fuck up.
