I've kind of been peeking in on the periphery of this conversation. I'm a bit of an MOS fan so you can take my view with a grain of salt. But if you really take a wide angle view of our world, if you can step back and really take stock of our strange universe... taking the position that there can be no metaphysical component to reality really strikes me as naive in the extreme. Just my 2 cents.
You must have peeked on the periphery of a different thread, MB. No one here's addressed metaphysics at all. This discussion is about willful ignorance and arrogance.
See, claiming with 100% certainty that your book - though riddled with historical/scientific inaccuracies, recycled mythology, and a multitude of inconsistencies, contradictions and logical impossibilities - is the inerrant, divinely-inspired Word of the one true God requires a shitload of both.
And dismissing all the other believers of all the other gods from all the other books of all the other religions (from time immemorial) with "I know Scripture is true because Scripture tells me that Scripture is true" isn't really the height of intellectual diligence/honesty or humility.
