What was the most Controversial Olympia?
« on: April 07, 2006, 09:49:15 AM »
I'd have to go with 1980.  With Arnold's win over Mentzer.  Allot of "Fixed" was herd after the winner was announced and even Mike said it was fixed.  Ronnie's 02' wasn't without controversy either.  Any others?

Franco in '81.  There were similar cries of "fix."  Franco should get credit for getting back into any kind of decent shape after having his leg basically ripped in half, BUT he did not deserve to win that year.  Dickerson, Platz, Callendar and Padilla were all better than him that day.

Arnold deserved it in 1980, Franco did not in 1981.

Actually i think 1981 eclipsed 1980 for all out nonsense, political bullshit and unfair judging. At least arnold physically out did his competitors if that makes sense and still had the best biceps, chest, and calves of the contest not to mention a canny back too. Franco had the best back, thats it and gyno, quad assymetry, no separation at all in the quads, small calves and just all out nasty physique beat a career best platz, padilla and callender. Truly the saddest day in bodybuilding, only being challenged by the 1994 fiasco.

ditto on that one..I still can't believe Franco beat Danny or Platz that year, it wasn't even close.

I agree, Arnold still had some great bodyparts and his height helped immensely. Franco was a joke.

Arnold didn't have legs in 1980 but the rest was winner. as far as mentzer... i dont see the big deal about this guy. his back was small and his legs weren't good either.

2001 was for Ronnie,
The first part was of the day was maybe for Cutler, but in the posedown,
Ronnie kicked ass, and Cutler looked like shit.

About 1980,
Arnold was indeed the most impressive. I can't judge about '81 , no material.

That's an easy question... and this is my top 3:
At the first place 1980 Olympia, where Arnold was not even top 4 material. Most scandalous decision in the history of BB.
Second, 1993 O. Shawn got screwed big time.
Third, 1981 O. Franco didn't deserve to win. And yes, Franco is one of my favorites.

So...?  Mentzer had no chest, Dickerson had no arms, Platz had no arms and he had wide hips with no taper, Roy Calander had small calves and came in soft, Zane was shredded but had no anything except an excellent rib cage that he used show off all the time with the vacuum pose.  Arnold was the most complete and best conditioned overall that night.  Arnold was down in size but still better than the competition.

I agree. Even at less than 100%, Arnold was good enough to beat the others.

The '72 Olympia in Essen, Germany.  No way Sergio should have lost to Arnold that year!
