He has climbed in the Alaska Range, the Cascades, the Rockies, the Alps, the Andes and the Himalayas. On his second attempt to scale Mt. Everest, on May 20, 2009, he became the first (and only) astronaut to stand on top of the world.

A Top 10 competitor in the 1988 US Olympic Luge Team trials and coach for the Philippines during the 1988 Calgary Olympic Winter Games, he was selected as a Honorary Captain of the 2010 US Olympic Luge Team for the Vancouver Games."

Agreed.  I was feeling a bit pathetic when I wrote the post.  I've since enrolled on my MSc in Astrophysics and applied for my Provisional UK Flying Licence and booked a course of initial light aircraft training.

Getbiggers accomplish all that in one week.

1.  If you haven't watched the movie 'Taffin' you simply must.... it's an insane Irish attempt at a sort of Mafia(ish) film and I f**king love it!
2.  Although Roger Moore is THE James Bond - no argument for the Scotch guy will be accepted - GoldenEye is the 2nd best film (and video game on the N64) of the last 30 years.

You can still climb mount everest.  I think it costs about $100K to do now, maybe more.  If you survive you can also get a pilots license. You can volunteer to speak at an old age home.  You can pay Richard Branson to fly on his space plane.  It's all right there for you.

Hadn't thought of that.  I have indeed survived several years now without any meaningful death threats (Taffin pauses and realises he is essentially inviting teh crazy...)
