Good news! You millennials that have zero patriotism really shows what worthless contributors to society you are. If you were around in the 60's I bet you would be spitting on soldiers coming home from Vietnam.

No one said it wasn't about tradition. But traditions are socially constructed. Thus, what was the rationale that prompted the NFL to start saying anthem? How is football related to the national anthem?

How about pride for your country?

Bodybuilding is the purest of competitions.

It's man on man, one on one.

Each gladiator defending his honor with pride.

Only one champion emerges.

Pure beauty.

You either have it or you dont.

Is bodybuilding a sport?!?

What does pride for ones country have to do with football?

How are they connected?

I'll take this bait. No, not even close. It's purely subjective. Never been a sport and never will be especially by today's bodybuilding standards

It's a worldwide sport, hundreds of thousands of people go to games each week and millions watch worldwide. Much like baseball, it's an American pastime. What better venue to express your love of country.

Millions of people go to work every day. There is no better expression of freedom than going to work every day and earning a living. Yet, millions of employees across the country are not saluting the flag.

Let's be real here: the NFL does not give two shits about the military. They do it for public relations because it equals more money. Don't be so naive and believe the NFL does it because they truly love the military. It has zero to do with that.

Ahhh, I see. Because of that it shouldn't be recited? I'll concede that Gooddell is a liberal POS but I guarantee you if stadiums were told by the NFL to quit with the National Anthem I guaranfuckingtee those (all) stadiums would empty then you can kiss the NFL goodbye. As far as teams. If I'm the owner of an NFL team and I'm paying a player $7000wk on a practice squad or $20mil for a season, I fucking OWN that player, no if ands or buts, it's not even a democracy. If I, as an owner tell you to not take a knee to disrespect the country, you do it or lose your job. PERIOD

What does owning the player have anything to do with it? ??? ??? We were discussing the underlying reasons why the NFL and/or coaches make their players stand, which has zero to do with love of country. It just gives off a good appearance.

Should it be recited at the beginning of sporting events ? Why don't millions of people cite it in other venues? In reality, sports have zero to do with the military. There really is zero connection between the two.

Do you know this for a fact? I mean that it just give a off a good appearance. Btw, they do cite it at other venues. Baseball, college sports, high school sports.. even other countries recite their pledge. What's the problem?

I meant sports in general, obviously not just the NFL, which is why I wrote "there is no connection between the NFL and sports."

Nope, I don't know this for a fact; however, given the extreme importance of public relations in sports, there is enough evidence to suggest that reciting the anthem keeps the fans happy,, which equals more money. Any person could see the obvious connection between good PR tactics and revenue.

No, you short-statured simpleton. The team owns the fruit of their labour, not the players themselves.

Standing for the anthem has zero to do with football. There is no connection between the two.

The NFL does not really care about the troops. They only do it for PR issues.

It's a tradition you worthless piece of shit.

And tearing down traditions is a classic leftist attack on our societies.

Not that a piece of shit like you could understand.

At this point,  it makes no difference. Professional sports leagues have been infected by the ghetto to the point of no return. You have to be a complete moron to spend your money to watch a guy run with a football, or throw a ball into a hoop, when you know damn well these same guys would otherwise be out robbing people.

Watch sports in which over 70% of the athletes are black.

Complain that the athletes aren't patriotic and instead care more about black grievances.

They're not. They're tuning out the NFL and pro sports in general. The Internet has change the game forever. There are simply more options these days. When pro sports became big there were only three networks. So they had a virtual monopoly. That's done. Same goes for Hollywood, another industry in secular decline:

The NFL has a ratings problem. Monday Night Football is down 24% from last year at this time, Sunday Night Football is down 19% and Thursday night is down 18%. We asked readers of The MMQB to share their theories and explanations behind the double-digit losses for prime-time games and the general sense that the league is losing viewers

It's not my place to look at my athletes contracts but since we work with 6 NFLPA agents I can tell you that anything can be added to that contract. if a player violates that contract he can be let go. Standard contracts are 20-25 paragraphs but if a team takes on a high dollar or high risk player you can bet there will restrictions about what that player can and/or cannot do.

Example, if a team signs a $100mil player and that player (just as an example) likes to sky dive and his contract restricts him from sky diving....he ain't sky diving and if he gets caught, his contract could be terminated. Obviously I'm no attorney.

If a player has a certain set of rules to abide by (curfew, getting into trouble, etc) the team can fine him. If you're late to a meeting some teams will fine the player $1000 for every minute that player is late, just as another example.

That doesn't mean they are "Owned" by the team. They can choose to violate their contract with consequences.

However, they are not owned, as if they do not have free will to act a certain way, of course with consequences.

Again, no one has answered the logical connection between sports and saying the anthem. What do sports have to do with patriotism?
