That doesn't mean they are "Owned" by the team. They can choose to violate their contract with consequences.

However, they are not owned, as if they do not have free will to act a certain way, of course with consequences.

Ok ok, obviously you're taking the context as literally own them like slaves. Jesus. Of course it's their choice and since it's their choice if they want to fuck up and lose millions in the process. It's also to owners discretion whether he wants to give that player another chance.

Again, no one has answered the logical connection between sports and saying the anthem. What do sports have to do with patriotism?

SF remember that time you trained with George Washington, maybe you can ask him for the getbig collective?

I'm pretty sure the founding fathers established this country for freedom: of religion, politics and sports (specifically American football).

Everyone knows when a touchdown is scored an insurgent dies and/or a pow obtains freedom. This is a large part of the reason for the NFL changing its ruling to favor the offensive side of the ball. More scoring = MORE FREEDOM!!!

FAKE NEWS

Coach you keep this up and you may lose new topic privileges. :/

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/08/03/texas-governor-posts-fake-news-on-jerry-jones-and-the-national-anthem/

The governor of Texas is praising Cowboys owner Jerry Jones for ordering all Cowboys players to stand for the national anthem, something Jones hasn’t done.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott tweeted, “Thank you Jerry Jones” with a link to an article on a website called UConservative.net. That article is headlined, Cowboys Jerry Jones to Players: “Stand For the Anthem or You’re Off the Team”.

But as Politifact notes, Jones didn’t say that. Jones said he supports the flag and the Cowboys as an organization support the flag, but he didn’t say that kneeling for the national anthem would get a player cut.

Frankly, that should be obvious: What Jones cares most about is winning football games, and he’s not going to cut a good player just because he disagrees with that player’s form of protest. The idea that Dak Prescott would get cut if he kneeled for the anthem is preposterous. Jones may want Cowboys players to stand for the anthem, but he’s not going to make that a condition of being a Cowboy.

Yeah, it's politifact. The story was about Jones standing up for the flag. No surprise

So, is Jones going to kick people off the team if they don't stand for the anthem? Did he say that?

Nope.  And it looks like politifact made coaches link inactive.

These athletes are ruining the country.

This is most likely the real reason for Jones statement. He's first and foremost about protecting his investment.

Frankly, I believe it would be a good time for any NFL owner to sell. IMO, The halcyon days are over. And it's much bigger than just Kaepernick.

Sure, but then they are at risk of losing their job.

They're owned (and has to follow the contract) as long as they want the money.

Breaking a contract is bad for your career.

Sports team owners have made their living playing the masses. Placating the public is important.  It's interesting what upsets the people.

When it was revealed the NFL charged the military for the halftime "service appreciation/acknowledgment " the public was mad until the money was refunded.

Hiding facts about brain trauma isn't a concern, but realizing the sport is unsafe for Jr is.

The NFL openly talks about expansion into other countries,  holds games abroad, in Mexicon and Canada. They use public money to finance stadiums where they can double dip on psl's, parking and concessions. BUT people stop watching because minorities use the anthem to make a political statement.......

That said I agree that the NFL has or is peaking but as long as owning a team is considered a luxury purchase most won't sell.

It depends how you define "owned."

own
ōn

verb
1.
have (something) as one's own; possess.

Understanding the meaning of words is kind of important in the world. Ownership is one thing, being contractually obligated is something quite different.

Perhaps using the word or words that are correct for the situation would be a good thing.

The NFL does not "possess" people. People are are contracted to perform a service and if the service does not specifically say anything about requiring them to stand or salute the US flag, then you actually can not do anything to them.

I'm pretty sure NFL contracts are iron clad and to be honest, I would love to see someone try to put this into a contract and see what would happen.

It depends how you define "owned."

I do not believe anyone on the is board is capable of redefining the meaning of a word. I recommend a dictionary.

Fuck the NFL.

I think it's just as rigged as wrestling after last years Super Bowl fiasco.

This is the future of sports... Enjoy.
