What a shame. I always liked Mike, his personality. He seemed like a real cool dude, his attitude. It's near criminal how the Weiders sucked the blood out of so many and reaped all the hundreds of millions from it. You'd think an honest leader of an industry would have tried to take care of one of its well known athletes.
You can really hear the sadness and regret in Mike's voice, he knows he is fucked and will not get better. What I would like to see is the pictures the interviewer took from this. R.I.P. big Mike.

Sad that this sport is based on drug use. It can never go back. No one would accept a 190lbs Mr. Olympia winner anymore.

A 190 LB MR O WOULD STILL NEED TO USE DRUGS TO COMPETE IF ALL ARE USING TO CHASE HIM..EXAMPLE FRANK ZANE USED HOW MUCH/LONG DON'T KNOW BUT STILL ..

You are right. I am not advocating the use of the drugs for any sport, they are in fact used i. Virtualy every sport. They always will be,its a risk the participant has to decide for themselves. In Mikes case, he openly admited that he had a family history of high cholesterol. He chose to play with a loaded gun. The odds where stacked against his health and he still chose the route of tissue building drugs. I could probably have used steriods had i choosen and suffered no ill effect, maybe. My family has a good strong line of longevity with low cholesterol and good heart function. Yet even then one never knows what effect the drugs could play in ones long term health.

And he said that he had a GENETIC PREDISPOTION to heart disease and he still chose to abuse his body with drugs. That was foolish and irresponsible. But at least he was honest and told the truth in the end. He had a lot of regrets.

Steroids are a risk to health. Fans of steroids always rationalize their use by saying genetic predisposition for those suffering health problems. It's like a smoker who says his grandfather lived to be 90 smoking his whole life. Doesn't change the fact that smoking is a risk for heart, lung and cancer health. I also don't believe all pro athletes are syringing their ass. Of course some do.

Mike had both... massive abuse and a predisposition

and the result speaks for itself

Whats weird is that the health issues and deaths are primarily with bodybuilders, although all these other pro athletes in other sports are doping, not many ex-football players on dialysis or former track and field athletes dropping dead of heart attacks. Maybe high doses? Maybe diet related? Maybe long term use??

yeah at least a dozen bodybuilders died of, possibly, steroid usage in the last 50 years!!

it's a risky sport, along with other risky sports like jai alai, bull fighting and cheer leading.

'Anymore'? This was never the case. What's IMO is sad, is that people rely too much on drug use and take them (almost) right away, which isn't just bodybuilding-related.

" people rely too much on drug use and take them (almost) right away"

you just say anything that you dream up or do you base you comments on facts?
