I would say that Matarazzo was elite. Anyone that turned pro in the 90’s would have to be considered elite.

Look at the names in the heavyweight division that Mike had to defeat in order to turn pro:

HeavyWeight
1  Mike Matarazzo
2  Ken Wheeler *
3  Dean Caputo
4  Chris Cormier *
5  Kyle Norris
6  Harry Johnson
7  Bill Burney
8  Davis McGinty
9  Philip Hernon *
10  Raoul Fulcher
11  Bob Cicherillo *
12  Joe Carrero
13  Vincent Allen
14  Ronnie Coleman *
15  Gerard Dente

Agreed.

Mike was great but to Earls point he was never a top 6 guy. He had all time great body parts but where does he fit in this group: Yates, Coleman, Wheeler, Ray, Nassar, Dillet, Cormier, Levrone, Ruhl, Cutler, Dex.

Hes not out of place in that group but as a pro his best didnt always measure up.  Idk what he was missing.

Thank you for posting this. I thought about this point exactly after I left for work. Beat Ronnie , Cormier and Flex  ;D managed to place top 6 at the 1993 Arnold Classic but wouldn't place top 6 against one of the shittiest Mr Olympia line-ups in memory?  ::)

I’d have to say the late 80s through to Late 90’s / 2000 was the Best era for quality Physiques
In the Pro Line ups. The Depth of Quality in Pro shows just isn’t there any more & hasn’t been
For a long while. That’s not to say there isn’t Great Physiques around.

Why are you being mean to Earl, ND?

It doesn't sit well with me that two legends from Getbig's Ironage are being mean to one another like this.

Can you fill me in, and explain why this is occurring?

Matt you've interviewed Kevin live and in the flesh did he bring you to tears? Asking for a friend.  :-X

⬆️ Mike should’ve stepped onstage about 15 lighter than that. He would’ve placed much higher.

LOL, yeah - @ the 2013 Europa in Orlando.  I was 178-lb there - Kev was around 185-lb.  Kev is maybe an inch taller than me at most.

Blows me away how "normal" Kev can look before getting his size back on.

Wait, ND - are you saying that Earl cried when he talked to Kev live?

He competed as pro for a full decade, he didn’t progressed one bit, that really puzzles me.
Actually his delts and chest seemed better in his early years.

Yes he didn’t make a splash winning, but his contest history shows a very competitive placing in 2nd tier shows ,he as pretty good considering that.his USA win build was as an a amateur pretty impressive to say the least.as with most big pros more size more weight to catch Yates, fux,Nasser ,dillet  was only option.

Still have his arm workout in a magazine Hrvatski Bodybuilding where he cited his role model for arms was Sergio Oliva.
Was in awe of the size in those black & white photos.

Not what you typed moron.  ;) your quote cool looking body doesn't mean elite competitive body again your quote. He wouldn't be top 6 like he wasn't then  ;)

Thanks for playing idiot.  8)

the fact that you didn't realize i was talking about the olympia and not the pittsburgh pro, a show i didn't even know existed in the city i live in proves you are a retard

keep melting down over me saying mike matarzzo wouldn't beat curry today, loser :-*

and no mike wasn't elite then either, he didn't even win those shitty shows

Says the teenage girl who " cried " when a washed up Kevin Leverone tried to compete again  :'( :'(::)

I don't hate you , I don't even know you. What I do know is you're ignorant and biased and type a lot of dumb shit that me and other people correct you on habitually. You're getting your ass handed to you still for claiming Heath would beat Dorian  ;D the contest placings took 2 seconds to look up ( try it sometime ) and would Mike be top 6 in last years Olympia? probably , because as Ronnie & Dorian had said the sport has fallen so far that the current Mr Olympia wouldn't have placed top 6 when he competed lol

it was sad to see him broken down and desperate, sue me

yes you do hate me, either that or you hate yourself because you go into full meltdown mode over difference of opinion on men in thongs, you are a miserable prick

and yes phil owns dorian, and no mike wouldn't be top 6 last year or any year, he sucked

he beat them as amateurs

to keep this relevant to today, my alma mater's high school basketball team beat kobe bryant's high school basketball team in 1995, i guess they were better players than kobe right?

Flex Wheeler was an awesome amateur.

You should probably know that as a bodybuilding fan. I mean Flex placed 2nd behind Levrone a few months later at the NPC Nationals.
