For the heavier guys here with back issues
« on: August 16, 2017, 12:00:26 PM »
What's the best mattress? I have a kingsdown and a tempurpedic that I bought, and neither are doing my back any good. Any of you guys with lower back issues find a mattress that lets you have a great night sleep?

I have had 5 major back surgeries and over 40 injections. They will not even touch it any more. They consider me a casualty case. I just bought my 2nd Serta iComfort mattress with adjustable base. I lost the first one in the divorce. I got the new Blue Max 5000 Elite. They are not cheap but damn, what a sweet mattress. I highly recommend it. At least check it out . I was averaging 2-4 hours of sleep in many segments prior. Now I average 5-8 non stop deep sleep. Good luck!

I have 2 degenerative disk diseases and over 3/4ths of my spine is deteriorated. I have 2 fusions and 3 other surgeries. I am 58 and I was diagnosed with the first degenerative disease at 24 yrs old. I finally decided to suck it up and start lifting in my mid 30's. I was already genetically bigger than most muscularly and responded to lifting very well. So I got hooked. I had my first fusion at 40 and my second at 46. I lifted heavy before my fusions and after healing from them. But after the 2nd fusions the pain was unbearable and went through 3 more surgeries and over 40 injections to try and get relief. The injections did not help and the pain keeps worsening through the years. I want to lift so bad but each time I do I end up laid up for several days. Of course years of heavy lifting and not using common sense made matters worse. But I am never going to lose hope. Thanks for asking.

I don't care what it cost as long as it was comfortable. I have a custom bed with drawers on it and it doesn't have a box spring so I am not sure if that has much to do with it. I sleep on the other one occasionally and it's not too much better. Both mattresses were over $2,500 so I'd hate to throw the money away. Do any have a money back or return policy, other than that crap Mike and Mike used to sell on their radio show?

Sleep on the floor, I never had any huge back issues, but when I was younger had  lower back  soreness due to heavy bent over rows, anyway one night went out got wasted, and when I got home passed out on the ground, when I woke up I felt like a million bucks, no back issues at all. From that day on I sleep on the ground unless, I have a girl over, but even the matress I  bought is very thin and hard  Also, buy a reverse hyper machine made by Lou Simmons of Westside barbell or find a chiropractor that has machine at their practice.

I have no back issues...and I have only slept as an adult on a Japanese futon...The only downside is having to have a bed for sex only.

Thought I was bullet proof until I got into my 50's and both shoulders started to give me aggravation. I still think my back is bullet proof. Maybe that will be different in my 60's at some point. I always thought the combo of power cleans, deadlifts, weighted back extensions, and semi stiff deadlifts off a block contributed to my healthy lower back.

I'll second the floor/futon option. Over the years my mattress has been getting thinner and thinner, and when I nap during the day it's directly on the floor. Having to sleep in hotels I often find their beds much too soft, so I sleep on the floor in hotels too, just on a duvet spread out.

Only thing I need is a thin but stiff pillow, or a makeshift neck roll from a large towel.

FYI: it did hurt my shoulders and hips initially, by stretching them out to what should be their natural position. Start slow, even 30 min. before sleeping in a real bed worked for me. Then just build from there
