I am both saddened (and intrigued) by people who are surprised at how "dumb and depraved" humans can be. I will fully admit that we are the dominant species on earth (under the right conditions) but many of us fail to realize what we are at the core:

 Mammal : a warm-blooded vertebrate animal of a class that is distinguished by the possession of hair or fur, the secretion of milk by females for the nourishment of the young, and (typically) the birth of live young.

Why do we think we are so far removed? Can human women bare litters of children? Yes. Do all of us shed teeth? Yes.

So why do we question when things go wrong? As Mammals, I'd say we are doing pretty good for ourselves.
