If you manage to find realiable people to work with you, is it a good idea to run a gym as a side business?

Hi Coach, I know you have a ton of experience running a gym.  :)

Do you think trying to run it as a side business is a recipe for failure?

I guess it would depend on if you buy someone's gym with an established member core and existing equipment or if you lease or buy real estate, buy the equipment brand new, and start building your customer base. The latter takes 3-5 years until you break even or become profitable and obviously can cost a fuck ton.

I was thinking in starting from scratch. I live and work in a small town, not many gyms going out of business (so you can buy them) around here.

NO!

Been there done that.

Ran a gym for a friend - long hours, weak pay and so much stupid shit to deal with.

Owned a gym - Large investment for a slowish return, long hours and even more shit to deal with.

Want to invest?  There are better options.

Want your own business?  Again look elsewhere...

Imagine trying to get gym dues from the average getbigger. That should fix any urge to start this money pit you speak of...

I thought the old gym model was outdated and crummy.

No. It's very time consuming. Like almost any business.

my sister rented out a storage unit, bought one of those gym in a box packages from rogue, charged yuppie asians $150 a month and gave them a key to the unit. Her overall membership was small(30), i think she turned a profit the first year,

A friend of mine is opening a restaurant and wanted a $40,000 investment from me.  I have been informed that restaurants are a bad idea due to things like spoilage.  Oh well...encrypted coins are still a fantastic investment.

That's actually pretty cool.

Assuming there's liability insurance involved?

Liability insurance for a 24hr private gym is very expensive from what I hear.

Evo did you run your gym while working in marketing for the supplement company or was the gym a side business?

Also did you sell your gym out right or did it close down?

Very little money to be made in the average gym. Performance centers like Coach's, may be different.
Dave Draper said the best thing he ever did was get rid of his gym. (Low profit, long hours, pain in ass biz, etc).

Invest in real estate, apartment buildings, motel in lake community, etc.

yep you're right "in the average gym"

but if you target and focus on a certain special population ie. fat asses

you got very good potential as there are tons of them shitstains

USA has an epidemic and 66% percent of then are fat fucks

which equals 200 million peeps

do the typical USA brainwash/advertising and make then feel bad/interior and tell them once they are fit and slim that they will be happy and content and give them the means to do so, and then you will summon this $$$$$ to yourself
