Funny thing about that - in 2014, when I went back to university, I watched that movie, as well as "The Breakfast Club" to sort of reintegrate myself into the university life.    I was 32 years old and going back to school, so I figured it was an appropriate movie to watch.  As I recall it, Rodney Dangerfield was 65 when that movie came out.  He lived a long life, everything considered.  I believe he passed away at around 83.  That is a long run - especially for an overweight person.

I could believe that.  Apparently when he was in the hospital towards the end of his life (somewhere between 2001 and 2004), he smoked weed in the hospital room.  Not to compare weed to cocaine, but only insofar as he was still doing substances much later in his life.

Genetics fascinate me.  I would like to think I may have the genetics of a person like Rodney Dangerfield, but I can't be certain.  In other words, it seems to just be a crap shoot.  It's like if you're going to get cancer, you get it.  It's either in the cards or it's not.    Hopefully for me, it's not - but sometimes the only way to know if you're going to get a disease young is by actually getting it.  Sad.

I sat back. And I watched and I waited.

Nobody posted this classic exchange between Kinison Dangerfield in the aforementioned movie.

Dangerfield's club used to be somewhat popular with the Lucchese family. At one point during Sam Kinison's career he'd gotten in dutch with some gangsters, and they were strong arming him to be in various projects they were in on. I believe they tried to lock him into being a house comedian at a few clubs they were part of. It got so bad that they were chasing him around the city and LA to make sure he fell in line.

Well, finally he calls Dangerfield, and while they're talking, he mentions this, and how scared he was. Rodney tells him not to worry. He calls back later, and tells Sam every thing is fixed. Next time Sam sees the guys that were strong arming him they were full of apologies, and everything was cleared up.

I guess Rodney really did get respect when it counted.
