regardless of the improvement his legs didn't deserve an Olympia title, why don't we give Genova an Olympia title based on the fact he's a numpty.

I agree, I don't think he deserved the title either. Fifth place was the highest he should have placed.

always best to turn photos upside down to find lack of balance and flaws

Sh1t - I thought I was the only one who did that!  It really shows over-developed bodyparts too...

Good question. I think it started around the time when Robby won the 1979 Night of the Champions and he was crunching down on his intercostals and abs instead of doing a lifted ribcage pose. Now it's all monkey see, monkey do. When I teach posing, I try to get guys to suck in their guts and do the side chest the traditional way but they mostly laugh and end up going back to doing it by crunching down on the side.

Good answer, thank you!  I guess if the great Robby Robinson really started this posing trend, that makes it a little easier to accept.  With those armor-plated intercostals, who can blame him for wanting to show them off.

Robby did it a lot better than the competitors are doing it today. I think the pose would look a lot more impressive if they did the way it used to be.

Before I saw that photo of Robby, I'd probably have agreed. Robby looks fantastic there and shows a real benefit of hitting the pose that way - it creates definition where there was otherwise just 'blank space' (so to speak.) His intercostals are absolutely shredded and having it visible in a side chest adds a kind of new dimension to the pose.

For Robby, that version is way better. Unfortunately, most of the competitors today doing the pose that way don't have that same shredded intercostal development that Robby did.

Interesting, never knew that.  I also think Columbu held his own there,  downsized thighs and a bit of gyno doesn't mean he was in bad shape.
Franco's comeback was really amazing and it was kind of overlooked because of his controversial win. He tore up his knee so bad in that accident that the doctors told him he would probably never walk again let alone ever compete again. He worked so hard to get his knee back in shape, walking up stairs sideways, backwards, etc. It was one of the best comebacks ever.

Franco was in great shape. He was thick and really hard and ripped. He just had the one glaring weakness of no quad separation and the gyno.
