what did Ronnie change between the 97 and 98 olympias?

How much did Ronnie improve from 97 to 98?

At the 1997 Mr. Olympia ronnie was 255lbs

At the 1998 Mr. Olympia Ronnie was 248lbs...

did he really make huge improvements in the offseason that would warrant 9th --> 1st, or did he simply take his conditioning up a notch?

I think Ronnie just missed his peak for the '97 Olympia. If you watch "Battle for the Olympia '97", you can see how great he looks in the gym. He smoothed out for the show and was placed really low. He also looked great in the '96 Olympia and could have easily made the top six. In '98, he won the Night of the Champions and had learned how to peak for the contests so he showed up full and ripped. After winning the NOC, he was one of the favorites for the Olympia but he was the only one to really come in peaked condition. He outsized Flex, Nasser was just a little too smooth, Levrone and Shawn Ray weren't at their best and this left the door open for Ronnie to win.

I disagree with you Natural Al about him being favored at the 1998 Olympia , he wasn't considered to win , everyone including myself knew Flex was going to win and he didn't

Flex said that he knew Ronnie would win the muscularity round and he would win the symmetry round but he was absolutely dumbfounded that Ronnie beat him in the posing round , and lets face it Ronnie is not and has never been known as a great poser , but he won by just 3 points

Shawn Ray said they basically awarded Ronnie the title because he was the most improved from 97 - 98 and they shouldn't have , either way he looked great in that contest .

The difference between dorian and ronnie's most musculars is like night and day.

it showcases Dorians mediocore arms, chest, traps and delts as compared to Ronnie.

Hulkster get a grip seriously , you don't believe Ronnie is better if you did you wouldn't feel this compulsion to insert it in every thread , you have no confidence in your opinion , and look for others to validate it , anyway Ronnie looked great in 98 , probably the best he has looked at an Olympia .

Oh yes lol but whats ironic is that one he wasn't even close and he was elated that Flex lost to Ronnie , he did not want Flex being Mr Olympia , my take is he was severly jealous of Flex's success and Shawn always claimed to be the Olympia was his destiny and Flex could have been Mr Olympia if he was serious enough .
