Ronnie Coleman laying waste to Chris Cormier in a boxing match.
« on: October 15, 2017, 07:58:54 AM »
Does anyone remember this photo shoot?  It was from the September 2001 issue of FLEX magazine.  This was at the time in my life where I thought bodybuilders must know how to fight because they are so huge.  ::)

In reality, I am confident that at my strongest and fittest, I would have had no problem laying waste to Markus Ruhl for instance.  He would simply have nothing for stamina.

Anyway, when I saw these pictures I was like WTF?  Is Chris even a pro?  Ronnie just looked insane compared to him.  It's like what King Kamali said about Ronnie in his Mr. Olympia review that year - all pro bodybuilders are gorillas, but Ronnie is the silverback gorilla  ;D

Ronnie just looked to be on a whole other level than Chris, and looked to be 85% of Ronnie's size in contest, with an even greater disparity favouring Ronnie here.  While Dorian said that one year of training Chris would have seen Chris beating Ronnie Coleman, I just doubt that - especially given that Dorian made that statement around 2005, on Pro Bodybuilding Weekly [is that show still around?  In its heyday, it had 100,000 weekly viewers].

Incidentally, I met Chris at the 2011 Mr. Olympia through a Getbigger.  This particular Getbigger pulled out a bottle of vodka in the parking lot of the Orleans hotel, and I basically lost all respect for him at that point.  If you are going to drink vodka and drive, at least have the intelligence to put it in a water bottle.  ::)  What kind of a moron drives while sipping vodka from a massive 60 ounce bottle?  I can see why you would want to drink a beer while drive - not drunk - but to drink vodka like that?  Horrible.

PS - How come Nether Animal stopped making posts like this?  ???  They were good, and now a void needs to be filled.

I would have loved to see a prime Chris Cormier lay waste to a prime Mike Tyson in a boxing match!

I totally see what you mean...

...the lack of sunglasses in the first photo sickens me too.  ;D

PS - Would you have wanted to watch Chris Cormier knock Mike Tyson unconscious in the first round of a sanctioned boxing match?

What's sad about these photos with Ernie Taylor is that he actually had a great physique minus the synthol in his triceps.

In the 2004 Arnold Classic commentary, Dorian Yates stated that Ernie did not have synthol in his triceps, and if he used synthol that he would have put it in his calves, which were weak.  It seemed like a bit of a dumb comment from Dorian, but his justification was that he trained with Ernie, so he knew.  I think it was more a matter of training with him, having respect for him, and maybe buying into Ernie's lies/denial about synthol, and then sticking up for him publicly.  I can't imagine that Ernie DIDN'T have synthol in his triceps.

I had a conversation with someone else close to Dorian and Ernie who said he used to inject lots of test prop into his arms.

He had freaky triceps when he was competing with NABBA in 94

looks too much like synthol to me.

Same here.  But hey - I guess without a test or an admission from Ernie, we can't "know for a fact".  :-\  I think I heard basically exactly what you said regarding Ernie using test prop in that fashion.  Something about the buildup of scar tissue making the triceps larger, but misshapen.  Also, I just realized that Arnold Classic [2004] was Ernie's last contest.  :o

Oh, and - what happened to Tim Fogarty?

Ernie had said the same thing about sticking it into his calves. The reason he didn't would be because it would be too obvious, and that he wanted a freaky body part to gain attention. And he even posed his arms in a manner to garner attention to his triceps---which lacked detail and just were a mass of tissue.
When Ernie first came on the scene back in 96, before Flex Mag, did that photoshoot of him, he bragged in another mag (MD?) that his arms were 22 1/2 inches. By the 97-98, they were "23 1/2". About the only thing that got bigger were his triceps, and his forearms looked strangely down compared to his upper arms. A sure sign of synthol/oil usage.

That’s actually a pretty fucking funny story.  ;D

Especially since it involves a getbigger.  :D

Would have loved to seen him talk his way out of it when the police officer looked down and seen a big ass handle of Smirnoff in between his legs.

I remember the Nasser suspenders and daisy dukes photo shoot sort of piqued my attention that something was a little off.

This boxing photo shoot started to leave me with serious concerns.

Then after lurking on getbig for a short time, well that was like walking in on the wife getting slammed by the mailman. It just left no doubts whatsoever.

The thing about that is that I eventually scolded him for it over Facebook [via private messaging].  He told me that he was at a point in his life where he had hit rock bottom and wanted to get caught.

I remember he drove me and Cormier to the Trump hotel for some Olympia afterparty event that was getting started and I was like "Dude, I have to edit these videos so that my YouTube channel gets the most views."

He didn't care - the concept of "work" seemed unheard of to him.  So I ended up getting on a Trump mini-bus which took me back to the Mandalay Bay where I was staying that year.  I did the host hotel in the following two years though.  I do recommend staying at the host hotel if you do an Olympia.  For the Arnold, I found a cheap hotel - I believe a Knights Inn - that cost next to nothing for me to stay at, and was only a very easy bus ride to the expo.  I think I paid $714 for a return fare trip from Thunder Bay, and I stayed from Wednesday until Monday.

I stopped going to expos due to my children.  But it also just so happened that when I stopped, my kids started school, so I had more time away from them anyway.  So in a sense, I picked the exact wrong time to start.  Now that my two oldest kids are in school, I could start going again...but I still have my new 3-month-old who I would miss.  I do miss covering the bodybuilding scene though.  8)

PS - I badly want to mention the name of this Getbigger.  ;D

LOL, no.  He is/was a Getbig legend.  I would say who, but he actively reads the board.  ;D

All I will say is that I think it was known that he was friends with Cormier.  :)

No, I wish.  His posts are amazing.  Truth be told, I like that Nick's Strength & Power/Lui Marco style, where pictures and info are posted.  Simple, easy to read, even nostalgic.  I like them a lot.  Also, it keeps the board bodybuilding-related.  :)

Jesus dude, my dad went on the road all the time when I was young for a couple of weeks at a time(alot of those were to the pulp mills in thunder bay btw) did we miss him sometimes? I am sure he did, but it allowed him to see the world, put food on the table, and later buy the company.

I know you love your kids but leaving them for a fucking wekend once in a while won't be the ned of the world, stop being a pussy and man up, in fact once they get to a certain age they wont give a fuck whether you are there 24/7 or not, more like they will avoid you like most kids do at a certain age

he is in Thunder Bay which is as pretty far and closer to Manitoba/Northern Minnesota, which kind a makes sense as Matt is essentially a charcter out of the Fargo movie

His videos are decent though, you can here the canadian accent

Let me guess.  The photo shoot was done with Scratch 'n' Sniff technology with an IFBB Schmoe 'n' Tell in mind.  Those pictures are so Schmoed out that no normal homosexual male would find that "hot".

Coleman and Cormier should be ashamed of themselves. But they probably aren't.  Coleman is too retarded to recall much about his past and Cormier thinks anything is better than the S&M picture of him with  the white midget Chucky lookalike transjenner  bungo-lipped creature.

Disgusting, lazy bodybuilders.  Filthy mongoloids.

There was talk of it being an early synthol type product; gear (prop), lidocaine and s.e.o/silica mix IIRC.

He was also a fan of prop/sust in the 'b spot' apparently...

Ronnie trained his ass off year round and had a full time job. Cormier partied too much. Not saying that's all it is but i'm sure it makes a difference.
