Toastmasters
« on: October 23, 2017, 07:16:57 PM »
Has anyone ever joined this club? Does it help one become more articulate? I'm not really afraid of public speaking ( 7 out of 10 comfort) but I'd like to be more articulate.

Basically sound smarter. Like your average Getbigger.

Will this help?

I have known A LOT of people who have done Toastmasters and have absolutely loved it. They say it really improved their public speaking.

Did you by chance notice a difference in the way they spoke?

Public speaking is easy. I have done it a lot. Here are the rules:

1) Your audience is a bunch of retards so you can say whatever you want.

2) Never make jokes thinking they are going to work. Simply tell "funny" stories. They'll decide to laugh

3) Don't talk too long.

Yup. It makes a huge difference in reducing anxiety and increasing confidence.

You know when people get anxious during public speaking, there is a lot of hesitancy in their speech. Well, after Toastmasters, they experienced reduced anxiety and more confidence in their speaking abilities.

And most people are not even paying attention to the speaker.

Would you mind elaborating?

Again....I just want to be articulate. Almost have the ability to be more quick witted if possible.

I'm not scared to public speak....I sound somewhat like a simpleton when I do though.

I speak quite a bit and everyday to my team (about 115). I don't try to be anyone else other than me when I speak and yes, when I do speak at seminars, parent and student assemblies, other coaches, banquets etc.  I am articulate but I'm no Shakespeare. I try to inject some humor, personal stories (related to the topic) and just keep it "real". I actually enjoy it.

You might as well try it out and see what happens.

It's worth it if you are pensive about public speaking .  To be more articulate get a thesorous.

I am currently going through TM at work, it is a great program and I get a free lunch every Tuesday :)

I also have no problem talking in front of crowds but TM will help you clean up your talking and using filler words like So, Um, Ya Know etc etc. I'm on my 6th speech and plan on going all the way thru to the top. Before I got hurt I was signed up to do a speaking contest but withdrew with going off work for surgery.

Check it out definitely worth your time

Good for you. I personally find you to be one of the worst posters here. Sadly, you also seem to be one of the guys that posts the most as well.

Not a good combination.  :-\

I've been asked to join Toastmasters for 10 years now by coworkers.

They tell me, "You're so good in meetings you'd be great at Toastmasters!"

Begs the question for me:  If I'm already good at public speaking and Toastmasters develops public speaking skills do I really need Toastmasters?

I got weights that need lifting and a gorgeous muscle body to build!!
