While in legal terms the distinction isn't relevant in societal terms it is very important to refute homophobic claims that accuse gay men of being pedophiles or the conflation of homosexuality with pedophilia when heterosexual men are by far the ones who perpetuate these cases while gay men and women are the least likely to be attracted to kids and commit these acts.
