Bodybuilding Heroes and Legends - Volume One recaptures the glory years of bodybuilding. This was the era in which legends such as Schwarzenegger, Oliva, Zane, Robinson, Szkalak and Mentzer battled it out on stage for the biggest titles in the sport. These iconic confrontations are captured in illustrious detail, showcasing the colorful personalities with their larger than life physiques who fought hard won battles in the gym before displaying their bodies onstage to the delight of their limited but enthusiastic and loyal fan base. Some of the most exciting bodybuilding competitions in the history of the sport are included along with the amazing bodybuilders who became legends. Read about the iconic battles between The Myth and the Austrian Oak, the backstage politics, Frank Zane's rise to the top of the sport, the fiercely independent Kal Szkalak and the inside scoop of one of the most controversial contests ever, the 1980 Mr. Olympia.

"battled it out on stage"
"iconic confrontations"
"fought hard won battles in the gym"
"Read about the iconic battles"

Nice! Can't wait to read about these heroic and courageous warriors.

Suggested Subtitle: Of Bellicose Biceps, Pugnacious Pectorals, and Truculent Triceps

Suggested back-cover blurbs:
"War is the continuation of bodybuilding by other means" -- Carl von Clausewitz
"Bellum omnium contra omnis est corporis artiflexor" -- Thomas Hobbes
"War is a force that gives us bodybuilding" -- Chris Hedges

Legends?

apart from Arnold Lou and Steve Reeves no one outside the creepy niche market of the sport has heard of any other bodybuilder on the planet and thats because of movies and TV, fuck all to do with bodybuilding.

It's not really a book for those outside the "creepy niche market of the sport", it's more for those who like the bodybuilders from the 1970's and '80's.

                 Paean to the Thonged Throng:

The air in the gym is thick, with the smell of chalk and sweat,
And all throughout it rings, with curses, moans, and threats,
                     Deltoids to right of them,
                     Rhomboids to left of them,
Latissimi in front of them, and teres major,
                     Surrounded by bar and bell,
                     Intrepid they lift and well,
Into a drop set from Hell,
                                                  Went saint and killer,
                     Go where few would tread,
                     Do what others dread,
                     Don't be a dickhead,
                                                 Brave bodybuilder!

Yup, well known living legend himself, though he is humble and cool.

Another Muscle, Smoke & Mirrors  type book ? John .. what do you think you're adding new to those legendary confrontations episodes. About that has been written over the last 40 years .. through magazines, books, forums. To convince me to buy the book. Thanks.

If you've read all the stories in the bodybuilding magazines for the last 40 years than I'm sure you know all these stories that are in the book. Most people today haven't read all the bodybuilding magazines for the last 40 years so this is all new to them. Many people today don't even know who Sergio Oliva is. Some of the chapters are written from my personal perspective like when I attended the 1977 Mr. Olympia contest. Plus, it has great photos along with the stories.

Don't tell me you left out Melvin Goodrum ?! He's not just a bodybuilding legend but also Getbig legend which is waaay cooler.
Maybe you can write a full book about our beloved Goodrum. 8) :D
