We're doing two desserts with eggs and milk, but everything else is vegetable. I told some people at work yesterday that we weren't having a turkey and they acted like I sprang a second head. They seemed to take it very personally that we weren't having a turkey. I half-expected someone to call child services on us.

We actually did asian-inspired Christmas last year: Korean chicken wings, tempura vegetables, pickled cucumber salad, rosemary-infused sweet potatoes, bok choy.  I live in NYC, so asian- inspired Christmas just sorta seeped into my family's dna.

I think it’s good to mix it up.I love traditional thanksgiving food but I eat Chinese less often than traditional so I crave it.

There's nothing wrong with a plant-based diet, but his behavior about it is just funny to me because it's typical college-kid/ newbie type stuff.  People always joke about vegans/vegetarians always going on about their diets  and he started a thread about going a whopping 12 WHOLE DAYS without meat!

What is the correct amount of days he should have waited before being allowed to discuss his diet?

I probably should have waited until I was not a newbie, took a class on nutrition science, and waited a good year to start a thread.  :D :D :D

Yeah. A few years ago, we went to a Japanese friend's birthday party and his wife made him an Asian feast. I told my wife I wanted to have something like that for one of the big holidays. We've done at least one every year since.

My mother is here and she's literally sulking about the vegetable thanksgiving. Even though a big reason we bit the bullet is for her. We are trying to get her to re-work her diet, but it's a job. The thing is, she can eat an all veggie meal and be fine and we've had them plenty of times in my house.

you eat chinese on christmas too? might as well start celebrating the chinese new year in january while youre at it..

here's a concept you might not get, tradition means you do the same every time otherwise it is not a tradition.

Never.

It's not about  being "allowed" to discuss his diet, but about this being completely predictable behavior. I mentioned  how he said he couldn't figure out how to eat vegetables not too long ago, but another thing he was doing not too long ago was criticizing fitness personalities for posting pics of their food. Ofc I was like it makes sense that people in this industry would do it and  people would be interested in it, but he couldn't understand it. Meanwhile, with his eating shift, he's now starting threads about his food and even posting pics of it.

If this is directed at me, I never said I was a traditionalist. I like some traditions, but like the other poster, I like to mix it up. Besides, doing a big meal on Christmas is a tradition.

It's a message board that discusses exercise and nutrition.  He's a member who is trying a new diet.

You're saying "never" means he shouldn't be able to start threads about it?
