I can speak on this with experience.
I have owned 4 purebred pits. It's worth noting that a lot of attacks labeled as pits aren't even pits.
All pits have the capability for aggression. No getting around that. Many dog breeds are assholes. Pit bulls just kill dogs when they fuck them off.
Out of my 4, only one was incapable of getting along with outside dogs. Two of them needed supervision, one of them never had an ounce of aggression his whole life. 9 years without a growl, except when playing. The asshole killed many small animals like squirrels etc. attacked my other dog( other dog always provoked).
My current pit is a massive pussy.
Out of all my pits, none have EVER showed aggression towards humans. Terrible watch dogs, they're just too happy to see people.
They really are great pets, perfect blend of athletic capabilities without being Uber hyper. Perfect for my active lifestyle, but limited free time. They're very healthy, no weird predisposed cancer tendencies, hip probs etc.
Inexpensive, easy maintenance, not smart enough to try and escape yards.
I do see probs arise when the dogs get bred into 80+ LB monsters. A pit is 55-65 pounds. Inbreeding and mix breeding effects characteristics.
I see how people hate them, it's all good, I love mine. They have all been good with small kids, operate well with a walk a day and a small back yard.
Mainstream opinion says they're bad, but mainstream opinion also states the white man is evil.
Same here, we have had a pit for over 5 years now and he is the biggest pussy you will ever meet. He is very inquisitive of other dogs but has never ever attacked another dog. At the dog park he is usually the one running for cover from other aggressive dogs. Ohhh and his best friend is our mitten pawed calico cat. They play and cuddle together all the time.
