Did any of the UK Getbigger's see this? Be There - did you catch this one?
I caught it on Fight Pass, and can definitely recommend it for the $9.99 a month. It's absolutely well worth the price tag, and as long as I watch one fight a month, I will keep ordering it.
This was sad for Bisping - I know he wants to keep going, but as Georges St-Pierre said to him, there is no benefit in being a punching bag for the younger guys.
Do you guys find it sad when a guy hangs around too long?
What I would have liked to see for Ronnie Coleman was for him to win 1-3 pro shows in 2008, then call it a career. That way he would have still sort of went out on top, with people wondering "Hmm...could he have been Mr. Olympia in 2008?" Truth be told, had he not bought into the belief that it was his conditioning that was the problem [when in reality, it was injuries], he could have reproduced his 2006 form, and won either the 2007 or 2008 Mr. Olympia contests. But failing to win in 2007, he could have won a lower tier show, and retired still somewhat "on top" - well, with the illusion of being on top anyway. Just as it is a bit of an illusion right now that GSP is the middleweight champion. Just like it is an illusion that I qualified for nationals in strongman - as there were a couple of good 170-lb guys from my region who did not compete.
In a nutshell - I think we all know when we win something that maybe we wouldn't have won had it not been for a certain circumstance. Even Jay Cutler winning the Mr. Olympia in 2006, knew full well that had Ronnie been at his best, he would not have won. And Jay looked damn good that year.
Relating this to Bisping - what I want for him is to be matched up with a middleweight competitor who is obviously not in his league for a spring show in his home country. He can then go out on a win, and celebrate in his hometown, relishing in the years of memories of being a top MMA athlete in the UFC, and previously the best in the world. As a future hall of famer [presumably all those who win class belts, or if not that, then those who defend class belts will go on to be entered into the UFC Hall of Fame], what more does Bisping have to prove?
GSP has sustained over 800 hits to the head over his career, and it would be my guess that since Bisping was more of a brawler than GSP, and more of an offensive fighter, that he has well over 1,000 hits to the head to his name. I hate seeing fighters destroy themselves, just as I hated to see Nasser die young.
JMO...long post, but I hope for Bisping's sake he sets up a spring fight in the UK and ends on a W.
