Well, the concept is there actually.

 What is on the horizon are self driving cars in which owners have no direct control...they will be controlled by "swarm software"...All the owner will be able to do is input the destination...The route and how fast it goes will be determined by the "Transport Borg".

Can't see it happening in the next 50 years.  People will kick up a hell of a stink when autopilot goes from optional to mandatory.

Seems like the potential for carnage could even be greater since a hack wouldn't just cause a single car to go off course.
