Now, a black comic book movie is a "symbol" of something "new and diverse" like the Blade trilogy never existed.

Like when Fury Road came out and the media acted like a strong female protagonist has never existed in film before.

A typical movie comes out, one side praises race, gender, or sexuality of characters, the other side gets upset because really, who cares about the crap the other side is praising?

Then the other side fires back with how everyone is bigoted.

Rinse, wash, repeat.

We're all being played by a cacophony of BS.

This is incredibly reductive thinking. I'm gonna ignore the fact that you seem to think entertainment was never politicized before 2008. I'm also not going to focus on the fact that most people who go see this movie will still be doing so mainly for entertainment value.

The fact that you would say two comic book movies are essentially the same just because they have black leads tells me everything about your opinion on this. Obviously (hopefully) ur exaggerating, but look at the examples you chose. Blade had a majority white cast. Fury Road was a big budget film with a majority female cast and BP is a big budget film with a majority black cast. 10 years ago, these films would not have gotten made. Just look at Disney's recent merchandising history: they left Rey from star wars out of some significant merch, Scarlett Johansson has been aggressively pursuing a solo black widow film but disney's not interested. Look at all the behind the scenes stuff that went on with wonder woman but didn't apply to any of the other poorly received dc films. Look at Black Panther's production history. I think it might have been the film that was in pre-production longest.
