It was widely regarded that The Leader of Absolution would just be missing a couple of weeks and would be cleared in time to compete in the first-ever Women's Royal Rumble match on January 28 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. However, reports last week stated her neck injury is so bad, WWE won't ever clear her to compete again, bringing an end to her in-ring career.
Paige had only recently returned to the WWE last November after missing most of 2017 after having neck surgery in October 2016. Her return as The Leader of Absolution was going well until she reinjured her neck again at the live event, so this is a huge blow for her.
Neither WWE or Paige had commented on the neck injury or the retirement reports last week, but they did clear the air just a little bit on last night's Raw in San Antonio, Texas.
First, WWE quietly pulled Paige from the Women's Royal Rumble match graphic, before Corey Graves mentioned during commentary on Raw during Sasha Banks vs Sonya Deville that The Raven-Haired Renegade had been pulled from the Rumble match "due to a neck injury." WWE later posted an article on their website confirming this fact.
