It’s not about respect. It’s about putting eyes in front of the PPV screen. At the end of the day, it’s still a business. Stipe is an outstanding fighter but is not that big of a draw. More people were interested in this fight because of his opponent. Same deal with Cormier. That’s why he only headlines PPV events against Jones.

I think ngannou missed a handful of knockout shots by centimeters in round 1... Even the one shot he connected with in round 2 had stipe scrambling like crazy.

And unlike some fighters who are completely dead when they gas, you could tell he still had knockout power. Even when he could barely stand up straight, and threw only one or two punches in the round, those punches still had heat and kept stipe cautious.

I wouldn't count him out in a rematch. This seems like a 50/50 fight to me.

Stops isn't very marketable. He's sorta like fedor , but not quite.

Hwt div hasn't really been entertaining since drug testing came in, and it used to be the biggest draw. Saw this coming years ago, saying we were gonna end up having all the smaller divs fill up and we'll end up watching a bunch of 155-170lb avg guys fight.

what odds would you give in a rematch?

I would expect about the same result unless Stipe just "got old" during the fight. I think he is like 35 so that's a possibility.

Stipe won 50-44 on all 3 judges scorecards. That's just a dominant ass whippin.

He fought smart. He fought like a champ. Played to his strengths as he stated in the post fight interview.

It would be more of the same in the second fight. Avoid the big shots. Take him to the ground. Wear him down. Grind out a decision or possibly knock him out in the later rounds.

Stipe is my compatriot lats say. He is a Croat. Although born in USA.
Seems like a great guy.
Anyways both Dana and Joe admitted he is the UFC greatest heavyweight ever.
Both guys before the fight where hyping Ngannou as mentioned before for marketability reasons but it backfired on them when Stipe won and where forced to eat their words.
