First concert I ever attended was Accept/KISS (Lick It Up).

Vinnie has (co-)written several good songs, but as a guitarist, he’s largely a hack. Certainly his “shredding” is atrocious. Like, absolutely terrible.

And the two VVI records are crud.

The guy is a trainwreck. Spent a decade burning bridges left, right and centre, went into hiding for 20 years, during which time he ripped off fans who’d sent him money for a box set that was never shipped (and stuffed dead dogs in barrels, assaulted people, etc.), then reemerged ... as a disgusting tranny, no less ... only to begin once again burning bridges.

It goes beyond the costume and makeup.  His general mannerisms, the way he talks, acts, etc.  Like a flamboyant drama queen.

I saw the original line up in 1978 during Kiss-mania, also a show during the reunion tour.  Just average musicians with a  few gimmicks.  Their fans in the 70's seemed to eat it up.  Ace actually had potential to be a much better guitar player, but the drugs and booze ruined him.  Most of the guitar players that replaced him were way better.

I read Paul's book once... he didn't come off as queer to me, but I felt he was a bit harsh on Eric Carr. The most interesting stuff was regarding his early life and before the band got big.

I read all the newer books too.  Both Paul and Gene disparaged Ace and Peter to death... probably deserved.  Ace and Peter made a big mistake signing their rights away.  They both received a guaranteed fixed salary for the reunion tour, but Gene and Paul made a killing.  Paul needed the reunion tour to happen because his was practically financially wiped out due to his divorce.

Mick couldn’t shred to save his life (shred is a specific attribute of facility of which comparative few are capable, or even require), but he’s a better player than Vinnie many times over, in innumerable ways.

Mars has recorded some extremely memorable and clever guitar bits. He’s never been a technical marvel, but he’s an interesting player, nonetheless.

KISS frontman Paul Stanley reportedly says in his new memoir that former bandmates Ace Frehley and Peter Criss were anti-Semitic.

According to the New York Post, Stanley recounted that Frehley had a collection of Nazi memorabilia and that both Frehley and Criss resented Stanley and Gene Simmons, both of whom are Jewish, for their ambitions and dominant roles in creating the band’s music.

“As a result, the two of them tried to sabotage the band — which, as they saw it, was unfairly manipulated by [us] money-grubbing Jews,” Stanley wrote in Face the Music: A Life Exposed, per the Post. Stanley told the tabloid his assertions of anti-Semitism were “based on years and years of interactions.”
