skilled labor aint cheap no more
« on: January 29, 2018, 07:26:49 PM »
painting is 1.50 to 2.50per sq ft thats like 500$ or so per room

moving a water heater from inside to under the house 20ft away 575$

tapping a sink drain line to main line , adding new ptrap all interior labor 375$

its rediculous wat kinda prices people have in mind.  i end up doin 90 percent of these jobs , i only cant do certain crawl spaces 17 inches from bottom of floor joice to ground fuck that

im thinkin if i was lookin for work that a typical room to paint i would charge 100$ for labor but u cant get those prices anymore. thats around 5 hours of skilled labor 1 coat paint, caulking , some spackling

why is painting a room even worth $100? its fun... a child could do it. thats why people r supposed to have kids, to give them fuking chores.

5 hours or so of labor

5 hrs? painting a room does not require 5 hrs of labor.... unless u r standing around doing nothing for like 4 1/2 hrs, and call that 'labor', lol no?

If he was painting a room in your house, you'd want perfection, right?

It’s funny when I see all these painters making no money and miserable all the time yet painting is very profitable I find.I tend to focus on the wealthy communities that want to pay for quality, the fact we don’t steal,we are very polite no swearing smoking or anything on the job.And we offfer a 10 year warranty on everything.

The guys I see struggling do jobs by the hour and charge 15-20.Painting needs to be charged by the job and it’s great money.2-400 and hour painting is not unusual when you know what your doing and charge accordingly.

Despite what ignorant people think, painting CORRECTLY is a damn pain in the ass, and I'm not surprised workers demand more than 100 bucks a room!

My clients wouldn’t trust Mexicans in there home and Mexicans usually have no insurance.

I lived in San Diego during the housing boom in the early-mid 2000's.  Most builders were using cheap labor (mostly Mexicans) to build the new housing developments put up during that period.  There were not enough experienced veteran builders available at that time.  I cannot even imagine all the code violations that were broken, but they got away with it because everyone (from top to bottom) was making tons of money.  This was one of the reasons I knew it was a housing bubble.  People I worked with just couldn't see it and laughed at me.  About 2 years later, they stopped laughing when the appraisal value of their homes dropped by -50%.  I was planning on buying a 4 unit apartment building at that time, but I took another job out of state instead... one of my biggest regrets.  Oh well, they'll be much more lucrative opportunities in the near future.
