Truthfully, Belichick outsmarted Pete Carroll on that last play. Looking at pre-game film Belichick figured out that for every three hand-offs the fourth would have been a pass. Seattle tried to punch it in three times and failed. Fourth time was a pass and an interception to win the game. If he would have let Lynch have the ball to punch it in, Seattle wins.
