These are common folks.  By themselves they aren't worth much in this world, but a couple hundred thousand of them can get a lot of stuff done.  These people don't question the system.  They buy what they are told to buy and like what they are told to like.  They are needed to drive vehicles, build things, fight wars etc.  This is the bulk of the NFL fan base.  I'm sure this would probably happen in most cities if that team won the superbowl.

My stepson and daughter in law are both Manchester fans, one red one blue, although they never go to and matches.
My wife was at a conference at Old Trafford and they had baby football kits, she thought they were cute and bought on for their baby, when she gave it to her son he said his wife wouldn't let him wear it because it wasn't a city kit???

to have that sort of affection and pride for a team of players to me establishes that they have a mental defect.

Its the same in the UK, families with lifelong grudges because a member has married into another family who support a different football team.

Supporting teams is what you do as a child, when you become an adult you are supposed to put childish things away.
