OK, I've updated the list and been extremely kind by including Vince's absurd slave theory as well as civil rights activists and entertainers. I left burrito boy on the list because it's funny.
Can anyone add to this list in a real and meaningful way? I don't want to see a list of alleged black inventors without an accurate list of what they invented with some supporting evidence. Also, don't use any nonsensical theories like the iPhone would never have existed without black people because Apple had a black janitor and a black security guard. Give me something real that is supported by hard evidence. Something that could be considered historic in the traditional definition of the word.
"Dr. Shirley Jackson is an American physicist who received her Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1973. She was the first African-American woman to earn a doctorate in nuclear physics at MIT. In addition to her lengthy list of academic achievements, she also has an impressive number of inventions under her belt. Jackson conducted successful experiments in theoretical physics and used her knowledge of physics to foster advances in telecommunications research while working at Bell Laboratories.
Dr. Jackson conducted breakthrough basic scientific research that enabled others to invent the portable fax, touch tone telephone, solar cells, fiber optic cables, and the technology behind caller ID and call waiting.""Otis Boykin also
famously invented a control unit for the pacemaker, a device implanted in the body to help the heart beat normally. Boykin's invention allowed the pacemaker to be more precisely regulated."
"Thanks to Charles Drew, that blood is available. Drew was a physician, surgeon, and medical researcher who worked with a team at Red Cross on groundbreaking discoveries around blood transfusions. In World War II,
he played a major role in developing the first large-scale blood banks and blood plasma programs.""Jesse Ernest Wilkins, Jr. is one of America’s most important contemporary mathematicians. At 13, he became the University of Chicago’s youngest student. Wilkins continued his studies there, earning bachelor, master, and eventually earning his doctorate degree in mathematics at the age of 19. He’s published papers in mathematics, optics, and nuclear engineering. As a mathematician for the American Optical Company in Buffalo, N.Y., h
e perfected lens design for microscopes and ophthalmologic uses. His greatest contribution to scholarship was the development of mathematical models to explain gamma radiation and his work on developing a shielding against gamma radiation."
Dr. Patricia Bath (born 1942)
revolutionized the field of ophthalmology when she invented a device that refined laser cataract surgery, called the Laserphaco Probe"
