I believe that was the year jay wanted to.come in "extra dry/lean" and the first time a big size difference between then left & right sides of his body was noticeable.
Too lazy and don't care enough to Google, but thought he did the iron man as well where the size difference was even more noticeable, as he'd filled out by the Arnold.
Was also the year he skipped the Olympia to protest his diss-Q at the Olympia? Wasn't chad helping him also?
For the 1999 Mr. Olympia, Jay was prepped by Chris Aceto. In the video from 1993 when Jay won the heavyweight class of the NPC Teen Nationals [with Branch winning the overall, coming in at a shredded 184-lb at 5'6], Jay said in the interview with Carl Morelli that he had some help - and he mentioned Chris Aceto. So presumably Chris was helping Jay for a long time.
Chad Nicholls did not prep Jay for the 2001 Mr. Olympia. At that point, I'm not sure if Chris did, but given how good Jay looked that year, you would think he had some help. He did use LASIX though, so if he did have help, it would make me wonder why whoever prepped him didn't tell Jay he could get disqualified for that.
Here is the video from 1993 where Jay is just a spring chicken at 19. Well...a massive spring chicken.

. It's interesting to me that Jay mentions that his family had concerns for his health, due to his pursuit of competitive bodybuilding. And that was way before he ramped things up once he turned pro in 1996.
Jay received many gifts in his career.
Yes - in 2007 for example, where he probably deserved 4th place at best. I think Flex Wheeler said 5th...and I can't say I strongly disagree with him. I think 4th or 5th would have been appropriate...in 2013, Big Ramy should have probably traded his 8th place spot with Jay's 6th. I'm sure if we went through Jay's entire contest history, we could find other examples. It's pretty sad that Victor Martinez probably was the rightful Mr. Olympia champion in 2007...only to lose it to an off Jay Cutler. That must be a sad thing to look back on for competitors who have had that happen to them when they are 55 and retired from competition.
