I’m still 100 percent against it but lots of details have been worked out in Texas. Here is what I have learned about how the School Marshal part of the legislation works:
1. School districts can opt in or opt out of having school marshals, teachers armed under conceal/carry provisions. Looks like most have opted out, especially larger districts.
2. Any marshal must have written permission from the district. Teachers cannot just willy nilly conceal carry.
3. Training and psych evaluation is required for the marshals.
4. In many districts, it appears that it may be a secret as to who the marshals are (except to the principal and other administrators) but I bet the word gets out.
5. In the initial training programs, it DOES seem like the state of Texas gave the teachers their guns. Not sure if this is still the case.
