Ridiculously stupid idea which 95% of teachers will oppose. Armed security guards and police presence put the guns in the hands of people who have the right job responsibilities and training.

Yeah, this police and security guards typically have no idea the finer point to marksmanship..I shoot 4 times a week for competition practice and all of my police friends(including feds) shoot 1 time a year! And it’s only for their agencies annual qualification!

The idea that they are shooters is ridiculous

Florida Governor Scott proposal just now. Will the Florida legislature pass it?

1. Raise the age of purchase of guns to 21. You still can purchase any type of gun including assault rifles
2. $450 million for additional “resource officers” (armed cops) in Florida. If a district requests it, it sounds like some of this money could be used to arm teachers. Will districts want to do this? Probably not if they have any sense in their heads but who knows?
3. $50 million for mental health and caseworker coordination services
4. Florida “see something/say something” hotline
5. Stricter provisions for Florida judges and hearing officers to take guns away from certain high risk individuals.

Not sure about background check provisions. That’s probably more of under federal rather than state jurisdiction.

Try again $56,610 was the average salary for a public school . The average salaries ranged from $40,023 in South Dakota to $76,409 in New York.

well that changes everything, the extra $23 in south Dakota is gonna make all the difference. I'm sure teachers are lining up to get into a gunfight for 3 lattes

What is the cost of living?

That might be pretty substantial pay

I didn't really hear arming teachers.  It was more if teachers had concealed carry licenses, there would be additional training for them and they could carry on campus, there by eliminating the school as being a "gun free" zone.  I don't think it's about just giving guns to teachers, which would be a bad idea.

Really curious to see how many school boards and school superintendents will want concealed firearms at their schools. Seems like the school board attorneys would shit all over the very mention of it. Definitely will not happen in large urban school districts. Perhaps in smaller districts where there are particular trusted teachers. But how do you tell the goofball teachers they can’t carry if you let the trusted teachers carry? More work for the attorneys. They won’t want to deal with all the ramifications of it.

We already have this in Texas, and just like open carry..no one really does it.

We offer free training for teachers who want to be part of this..and we typically get very few people. We do receive a lot of questions from teachers interested..but the follow through is weak..

Available in all Texas school districts including large ones like Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, etc? Or up to the individual district to do this or not?

It just went through Texas legislation not long ago for all schools in Texas..not sure if individual schools are making policies against it..but if I know my state, funding will disappear if the legislature isn’t followed

According to this article about 20 percent of Texas districts allow it and 80 percent either don’t allow it or have not got their program up and running yet. These statistics may change after Parkland. Texas is giving money but just for training, not for firearms. Interesting. Those attorneys and school boards are obviously comfortable with it. I bet it is smaller districts where everybody knows everybody, probably the least likely places for mass shootings.

No one is going to give out guns..he’ll, most police agencies don’t issue guns..they set a guideline and lets you pick your own..but you buy it

Every agency I have ever worked for federal or local has had an approved gun list..my current employers list is rather strange...

Apparently, once you become a teacher you lose the ability to be able to conceal carry, know how to use a firearm, etc....Though, judging by common core maybe this is the case?

I HAVE NO ISSUE WITH IT ... If the teachers chosen go through military or police handling of a weapon then hell yes...
I have two boys in high school and I cant be with them all day im in a good area upstate NY but shit can happen anywhere.
As a former marine I taught my oldest how to shoot he knows and respects hand guns so he can take apart a fire arm clean and shoot if the time called for it..

Why should they be required to do any training in handling a weapon when any other person in this country can buy a gun with no training required at all

I don't see why them being around your kids (or anyone's kids) is a reason to require training

Anyone who wants to carry a gun on campus should be allowed whether teacher, student, janitor or lunch lady

the more good guys with guns the safer we'll all be

DAN, Semper Fi!

I'm no expert whe it come to arming civilians but arming teachers would mean arming each teacher in every classroom.

And the way I'm seeing the world today ... that could possibly lead to teachers starting an armed conflict amongst themselves for a number of various reasons.

Or even shooting a student who failed to turn in his homwork or cannot conjugate an English sentence or understand the correct use of capital letters.

I personally think it would be more appropriate to simply hire well trained and well armed security personnel who would be sanctioned to kill if and when necessary.

Add to the above:

Better gun control.
Make the gun owner also responsible.
Hold the parents accountable in appropriate situations.
Immediate death sentence if found guilty.

Are you nuts? (bold in above)

Also,

Better gun control. Ah and just how do you propose this?

Make the gun owner also responsible. and if your gun is stolen?

Hold the parents accountable in appropriate situations. And what appropriate situation would this be?

Immediate death sentence if found guilty. Fine with me but most kill themselves anyway and this doesn't being back the victims.

I’m still 100 percent against it but lots of details have been worked out in Texas. Here is what I have learned about how the School Marshal part of the legislation works:

1. School districts can opt in or opt out of having school marshals, teachers armed under conceal/carry provisions. Looks like most have opted out, especially larger districts.
2. Any marshal must have written permission from the district. Teachers cannot just willy nilly conceal carry.
3. Training and psych evaluation is required for the marshals.
4. In many districts, it appears that it may be a secret as to who the marshals are (except to the principal and other administrators) but I bet the word gets out.
5. In the initial training programs, it DOES seem like the state of Texas gave the teachers their guns. Not sure if this is still the case.

I hate guns and see no need for one myself, albeit this statement is stupid man. Do you eat meat? Some people prefer to hunt their own with a gun. That is ok in my book.

I find this to be bullshit in most cases.  All these fucking hunters aren't having their kills butchered.  I'm sure some do.  For many if not most, it's about killing something living.  Could be small penis syndrome.  Could be remorse of being too much of a pussy to join the service when they had the chance.  I'm sick of giving hunters a pass.  Deer meat tastes like shit.  Sure if you grind it into chili and season it and mask it with all kinds of other shit it can taste ok at first but as you continue to eat it, the gaminess breaks through.  Hope this helps.
