What's interesting about these strongman events is that most competitors are from Europe, esp the Eastern parts. With bodybuilding/physique it's pretty much the opposite, so I wonder why..

It blows my mind how good Mateusz Kieliszkowski from Poland is. If I'm not mistaken, Mateusz [is that the Polish spelling for Matthew? It's Matteo in Italian.

] was born in 1992. That means that he is only 25 right now, and may be turning 26 next month, or some time before June.

So to be 25-26, and only narrowly missing a podium finish at what is arguably the #1 strongest strongman professional strongman contest in the world today is ridiculous!

Consider that Canada's Jean-Francois Caron JUST [last summer, of 2017] beat Hugo Girard's record of winning Canada's Strongest Man six times in a row. I think Hugo won it from 1999 through to 2004, but you would have to check that online. Also of note is that Jean-Francois is turning 36 this year, and is still - as best as I am aware - at or near his best. So it's not like Mateusz is starting to surpass a washed up Jean-Francois.

You have this young Polish hoss beating who can easily be argued to be the strongest man in Canada's history - aside from legends about fellow French Canadian Louis Cyr. I can't confirm or deny Cyr's legendary status - but it should be noted that Ben Weider stated that Louis Cyr shouldered a stone

Louis started his strong man career at the age of 17, after some publicity came about due to an incident when the young Louis was reported to have lifted a farmer's heavily laden wagon out of the mire in which it had become stuck. He was matched in a contest against Michaud of Quebec, who was recognized as Canada's strongest man of the time. Cyr beat him in tests of lifting of heavy stones by hoisting a granite boulder weighing 480 lb (220 kg)."

Supposedly he shouldered a stone weighing 514-lb...but I think that was just wishful thinking. Ben Weider was a French Canadian Jew who had a sort of pride in his host people, and I think he wanted to believe the Cyr legends to be true. But were they?

Meanwhile, Mateusz is shouldering a 410-lb stone four times?!

Whoops, just noticed that the original list in the OP posted by chaos was not the final placings of the competitors...wow, so Canada's JF Caron is STILL in amazing shape, placing Top 5 at the strongest pro strongman contest on the planet!

And Mateusz beat him, and only narrowly missed a podium finish! Basically, the equivalent of the Olympic bronze medal, in strongman terms.

Unreal. That guy is so good - especially given his age. And especially given that JF CARON KEEPS GETTING STRONGER.

JF Caron actually came to Thunder Bay to compete in the inaugural Thunder Bay Classic in 2016. As expected, he placed first. Canada's 2nd strongest man at the time, Maxime Boudreault, placed 3rd, to show you just how amazing the lineup was that year. An American competitor was flown in from Florida, who placed 2nd, and put space between JF and Max [Alan Colley].

Canada has some amazing strongmen from Quebec. JF is from Quebec City! A historic French Canadian city in the French-speaking province of Quebec.

Wow! Seeing Shaw dwarf Arnold like that never ceases to blow my mind.

Even if Arnold did lose height from his 6'1.5" prime, he is likely still at least 5'11.5" today, and possibly has a chunky heel on there, putting him at maybe 6'0.

That said, I fear for Brian Shaw's health.

The moral of the story here is that if you want to make money in strongman competition, be sure to be literally the WORLD'S STRONGEST MAN. Top five may be ok too, and - similar to bodybuilding - if you are outside of the top 10, expect to be training people and selling those people supplements/steroids to make ends meet, while you train to place 11th in the world in strongman competition. $:-\$

I got an email from Rogue the other day. Included in the email was a clip of Hafthor Bjornsson performing the deadlift new world record with this new Elephant Bar etc..
All I could see was Hafthor Bjornsson throwing or dropping the bar.
Can someone enlighten me as to why this has not been disqualified?
Is it because we've got a different comp from when Eddie Halls lift was disqualified?
A new world record, because of the difference of the use of a different bar, I can only just about tolerate. But I can comprehend.
Is this a case of just a cluster fuck, make whatever rules up you want for our little competition/federation, providing it's worth it financially? In other words: Arnolds event instead of using proper rules of don't drop the bar.
Or did nobody else notice this, or was the clip I saw not clear enough and I've got it wrong.
I've googled this for the last hour or so and came up with nothing.
What do we think?
