All the knife fights I ever saw on a bus (I took the B-Line by ESF house) didn't start or end that way.

Best defense against a knife is to get out of there and not fight. The goal is survival, not winning against the other person. Your odds of survival are much better if you don't fight than if you fight something with a superior weapon than you. I'm talking about animals too. Needless to say give them hell if there is no way out though. Don't lay down like a bitch and take it. Pick your battles as much as possible.
