The individuals themselves are only trying to find a better way. I can't blame them on that level, and the truth is they share much more in common with us than the scamsters who are busy seizing control of the planet. No question about it.

Wow, though. From an objective standpoint: Can you imagine? The thought of jumping a border somewhere, moving about in safety and without threat of being called for it, being assured opportunity by undercutting an already too-low number, AND being offered a license to drive (effectively legitimizing the entire thing). What sort of nancies must we appear to be to those from elsewhere, that we'd allow the future of America's kids to be sold off to the greediest of opportunists among us?

The nation as a whole must seem like a joke to everyone, everywhere. Instead of using our power to join in trade with other decent nations, to force the broken places into proper democracy: we've decided to open the borders to turn into one of those places, ourselves. Meaning we've not only sold-off our own future, but the entire world's as well. Hmm, I wonder whose idea that was.

"Immigrants are getting tested, licensed and insured and this is making our roads safer for everyone," said Alejo, now a Monterey County supervisor, in a prepared statement. "Today, we see the law working the way it was intended to and has dramatically improved the lives of a million immigrants and their families."

I have mixed emotions on this. Having worked in Austin, a sanctuary city in Texas, I could see first hand the value in relenting on some things. Drivers licenses are one of them. It was a rock and a hard place. If you didn't allow them to get licensed, they were going to drive anyway. Without the license, there is no insurance and hit and run crashes were problematic. At least if they had a DL and insurance, when you got in a wreck, you had some chance of getting relief. But again, the other side of the coin is that it's one more thing that makes the US attractive to them.

Screw that. Giving legal recognition to illegal aliens absolutely emboldens them. This kind of thing is part of the reason we have so many illegal aliens. We have to be the only country on the planet that allows stupid stuff like this.

certainly a stance that seems popular. I tend to fall on the side of "They are going to be here and driving anyway, I would like them to be paying the same for insurance I am and have a chance of getting my car fixed if they hit me. " but I'm about 51-49 % on it. I am 100% on discontinuing any government subsidies for them including public schools. I think that is a big attraction

I don't really care about popular opinion. I've never agreed with the surrender approach when it comes to crime. People are always going to break the law. Doesn't mean we should stop enforcing it, or reward criminal behavior. Nothing good comes from doing that.

It was once considered that "we couldn't do anything about it" because who knows where they are to begin with. We can't have LE running around asking everyone for their papers, so to speak.

Problem is, getting a license requires showing up in person, so it means the opportunity to deport has just turned into giving status. That's quite a 180. How can that be seen by an American, already struggling, trying to hold his/her opportunity with any hope to make it count for something?

Btw, I'm not about placing heat on the individuals whose motive is to survive. What I wish most for them, is that their own country could be fixed so they'd be satisfied living there. It's where their heart, culture, and people are.

The ones who decide they're going to run their businesses on it (with no feds, why not?) are another story. Isn't it awfully similar to how a drug dealer operates, to cash in on desperation without regard for law? How is it that the one risks losing everything, including all assets, while the other's given every assistance imaginable with no risk at all?

And, btw. Unlike the ability to refuse drugs, as a way to immediately minimize threat to oneself from that, there's no such equivalency for the other.

So, at the very least: How can it be justified that we do not seize assets from those doing illegal business in this way? Simply because we'd need to enforce the law to begin with, maybe?

Anyone wonder why Trump, if he's so hot to do as he says, hasn't taken action like that? That's the only "wall" we'd ever need, as he knows, and instead of costing us money - we'd make money. I thought Trump said he'd make the best deals.

So what's up? Was he lying?
